As far as I know, they are the same species Euphorbia pulcherrima. We propagate by taking cuttings in March/April about 30cm/12" long and stick them in earth or compost ... then off you go! Once rooted/establish they are okay but I would think need to be protected their first winter in the ground. They bloom from November-March even if we have a light frost. This is why I don't understand this 12/12 hour dark/light theory.

They do, but mine have all fallen off now so just the bracts left which are starting to look a bit dull now.
I'm think yours is much closer to the actual species, so the flowers are more prominent and the bracts are smaller, the ones sold for pot plants over here are bound to be hybrids I would guess.

I would guess the "bract flower" is perhaps 10-12 inches across.

Yep, I'm guessing it is big in that way but it looks a bit thin, if you know what I mean compared to the potted version, I'm not saying one is better than the other just different in appearance.

Bearing mind the potted version is in a 5in half pot, they do quite well.

The decorative ones come in 8-10in pots here I guess (they go by liter pot size).

Well I think you can get them in different sized pots here but mine was just a Morrisons cheapo one.

I never could get it to germinate but have more seed, well, maybe it is K coccinea.
