WHATS LOOKING GOOD IN MAY 2014

That's the most lovely collection of Aquilegas I have ever seen Mr Shiny. Such intricate little flowers.
It's nice when someone takes piccies of them like this. You don't normally have the time to observe them in so much detail,

Mine have survived. Best of all, the greenish tinged white one has survived.

 

@ARMANDII - how come you get choice Aquilega yet all I get are muddy coloured or nondescript shades?

Kalanchoe x houghtonii was planted out a few weeks ago and is proving to be a long bloomer...........


The colour gets better too..................


And Ornithogalum nutans is in full bloom....................

 

My Azaleas are just getting going along with some of my Rhododendrons. Suppose this has to be my favourite time for the garden as they give a succession of such lovely flowers plus with my type of climate and soil they don't really need any attention other than being mulched. No complicated pruning, no feeding, no spraying for insect attack just quite happy getting on with things leaving me time to deal with other plants which are not nearly so obliging. I do however always say thanks to them for giving me such a lovely display....sad but true.
The little Rhododendron is new last year and called Dreamland. Very nice dark foliage when not in leaf. The 2 Azaleas I have I've had for over 20 years. The taller dainty pink 1 (really pretty pink unlike my grotty photo) is Schlippenbachii which has the bonus of beautiful red autumn colour. The smaller Azalea must be the most floriferous of all my many Azaleas but I unfortunately can't remember the variety unfortunately. Only about 3ft tall after all these years.

 

Please excuse chortling smiley who has appeared and resists all efforts at deletion.

@shiney Do you just pull out the forget-me-nots? I like mine, they've turned up in many places this spring, but I don't know what to do about them after they're finished. They are near where the runner beans are to go in.

@ARMANDII -- love those aquilegias -- mine are just starting to open. Tied them in today against that wicked westerly blowing today.

 

Shiney.......have you any idea why you've lost the Aquilegias, weather, disease perhaps?

 

Are you telling me you've dug up a thousand Aquilegias Armandii?
