        I have my first peony. I have been watching this clump appear each year and then get swamped by other plants soon after . Only last year did I realise it was a peony plant . It has never flowered until this year:

          This is another plant that they renamed some years ago. I still call it Allium siculum :heehee:. They really have gone mad this year so we'll dig a few hundred out after they've finished :). A very pretty flower.

                  My "Blue Angel" Hosta by the pond. It seems to be Slug proof and those big leaves really show up against a dark background.

                            Yes, that is indeed a solution ... but my Mother grew loads of "hates my soil" plants in containers and it became a tour de force watering them every day, so I vowed never to grow "hates my soil" plants ...

                            I suppose I could just have them "in rows", round the back, hooked up to drip irrigation and then bring them out just "for the season" ?

                            Although ... what I would really like is a "Rhododendron dell" (apart from the fact that Suffolk is pancake-flat of course!!)

                              Containers are indeed a pain in the bum to keep watered - especially when you've got between 60 - 70 of them :gaah:

                              A few wouldn't be too onerous though.

                              Alternatively, could you construct some sort of raised bed and fill with topsoil? Rhodos are shallow rooting so if you did it at a decent height and topped up with ericaceous compost & feed every spring you might be okay. Of course you may think that's more trouble than they're worth.
