WHAT'S LOOKING GOOD IN MAY 2018

Our new white wisteria, four weeks ago it showed absolutely no sign of life.




Our "star" tortoise shell rhodo, is about to make an appearance. It's our biggest. Started off in 12" pot from Wyevale, reduced to half price as the blooms had frost damage.





One of our new clematis from Taylors.





A really white small azalea.



The white azaleas are taking over from the red ones.



Some of the patio roses starting to bloom.

 

They look great.

 

It's lovely.

 

i kept my Coleus Saturn and Perilla magilla stock plants on the kitchen windowsill over winter and took cuttings in early march. Now planted out and giving them more growing room this summer.

A rather small Nemesia Plums and Custard bought last week, should get going now it's in the ground.


Nemesia Banana Swirl, over wintered in the greenhouse.


I bought these Petunias as small plants in early March and they grew so fast I had to put them out in the first week of May to slow them down.

Lovely flowers, those coleus are so colourful.

 

Seed grown hippeastrum (ex Red Lion), scented lightly of freesias. Took 7 years to flower. Lives in unheated polytunnel (one of its siblings lives in my front garden and though it hasn't flowered, came through the winter no problem).

Regarding climbers...I saw two of your lilac or purple climber this week when hubby took me out both of them was trailing across the front of both houses...very stunning in deed

 

Hi @Jack Sparrow hows your Salix "Flamingo" going?...mine had it's leaves come and now they've gone pink

P.S Hows your moms rose tree and plants going in the tub you brought her for mothers day.

 

Sorry @Gail_68 , Willows don't flower , they have catkins early in Spring, the pink bits are leaves.

 

I stand corrected mate...as Verdun already mentioned it to me but when they go pink they do give an image of a flower...

 

Great pics folks, thanks for sharing. Although Spring may have arrived late this year, where I live it has been a really brilliant Spring. As always the flowering trees have given such a display. Closer to ground level, there is an abundance of activity. I have at last been rewarded with some hardy geraniums, cranesbill that I sowed the seeds of a couple of years ago. I don't know about you but. It really gets to me, when people who obviously have no appreciation of plants, plug the stimmer in and it's goodbye to anything standing.

 

Ooops! No offence suggested or implied, but what is a 'catkin' if it's not a flower? What part of a willow takes part in, 'wind pollination'. Just a thought.
