We bought this little rhodo in June last year. We had no idea what it would look like when it flowered, as there was no illustration available. I bought it more because the leaves looked very healthy.

It was just fill a gap, between the big one on the left and the fading white one on the right.

          Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised.

I found the receipt from Wyevale (I always keep 'em as they guarantee their plants)
It's called Mrs T M Lowinski. It'll only have two blooms this year and it'll have to fight for space next year.

I dead-headed the first of the rhodos this morning, I like to do them as soon as the flowers have died off, as otherwise chubby fingers can have difficulty in pinching them out without damaging the new shoots.

@Doghouse Riley Think you will maybe have to move Mrs Lowinsky, she is quite a strong grower and certainly not a dwarf Rhododendron. I grow her and mine is about 6ft tall.

Thanks for that, I was thinking about that too. I'll have another look at it in the winter and make a decision.

Hi Mike...here's what Catkins are for :phew:

A catkin or ament is a slim, cylindrical flower cluster, with inconspicuous or no petals, usually wind-pollinated but sometimes insect-pollinated. They contain many, usually unisexual flowers, arranged closely along a central stem which is often drooping. They are found in many plant families, including Betulaceae, Fagaceae, Moraceae, and Salicaceae. For some time, they were believed to be a key synapomorphy among the proposed Hamamelididae, also known as Amentiferae. Based on molecular phylogeny work, it is now believed that Hamamelididae is a polyphyletic group. This suggests that the catkin flower arrangement has arisen at least twice independently by convergent evolution, in Fagales and in Salicaceae. Such a convergent evolution raises questions about what the ancestral inflorescence characters might be and how catkins did evolve in these two lineages.
