Seriously though, growing plants that are unsuitable for the climate is more fun. The Jacaranda is ideal for your climate, the Lewisia less so probably. Might be a good winter bloomer there maybe? I would have thought that the Scilla would romp away there though.

Never been a lover of mixed pots but I do like this mixed pot. Probably because I'm getting into Lewisia. Hardy but they need protection from winter wet so the pot method is ideal as they overwinter under the eaves of the house.

 

Actually (said with emphasis) I have two Jacarandas, aged about 20 now) and just starting to bloom. My Scilla (Portuguese Squill) I have had for 7 or 8 years and did beautifully when in full sun but I moved it to the shade a couple of years ago.

You grow it in the ground!
I've add for five or six years now and grow it in a sunny well drained raised bed. The foliage always looks the worse for wear, but it flowers well and is slowly multiplying.

Absolutely love this Wisteria. It's the best it has ever flowered. Last year it had about 6 flowers.

 

I was hoping to see my seed grown plant bloom this year. Is it a spring bloomer only?

Envious of your climate there!

 

I planted a Wisteria tail end of last year, against the newly constructed pergola. At the moment, it’s not much more than a twig

 

I was lucky that this was already here when we moved in. Sadly one died last year and my other one died this year (last year it bloomed beautifully). I hope this doesn’t mean this one will also die next year. Carol Klein did actually tell me that the one which died this year was looking “stressed”. Just goes to show she knows what she is on about!

 

We had a couple of them maybe 15 (?) years ago. I kinda let them get out of hand and they were rampant. Must try a bit harder this time to keep on top of it, although the one I have is a white variety, which if memory serves is a bit more sedate.
