Now that you mention it Elaine, the flower is a bit similar in shape.

I don't think I told you that about the rhododendrons and azaleas being the same family, but I remember someone else saying it. Lilies grow from bulbs, tubers, etc, so they wouldn't be of the same family as the others.

You are not being thick and not asking daft questions, nobody has the answers just fall into their heads - but wouldn't it be great if that was the case!!!

Just to go back a wee bit here ... the Cercis is wild here, which is a treat to say the least. A wonderful shrub/tree and I am proud to have one in memory of one of my cats, Skwij.

As to K-G's Azaleas, they are to die for!

Elaine, we have the Japanese, Sis has the deciduous giants, which I would love to have, but can't here.

Beautiful pictures - the azaleas and roddys are just beautiful - especially when their scent fills the air!

Roders - that Judas tree is remarkable! I was wondering if it was some kind of parasitic thing - or whether those are the flowers of the tree? Does it have 'normal' flowers too?

pete, they are to die for. I have new healthy shoots and may look forward to some blooms in the Autumn when they bloom here.

Going back to Cercis, my second favourite tree in my garden (Jacaranda being the first) this is not my best pic, and one was up in a recent pboto comp ...

Your orchids are fantastic pete. I guess the winters are not too cold in Kent that you left them out all winter?

Sis, your Cercis is lovely and I wonder if it will later get blooms on the trunk like pete's or is that really a parasit as Jarbax thinks? I think that is worth googling.

    Lovely colour pansy rosietu.

bobj - sorry, I meant to say that your orangy-red flower and the yellow one are beautiful, what are they? You are also warmer there than we are here, your Campunela (spelling?) is already blooming whereas ours is just a nice big clump of green at the moment.

Beautiful pansies, rosietu ... they are such cheery flowers.

Sis, my Cercis blooms are (no were, mine is leafy now) directly on the branches. My tree is only about five years old. The one roders has photographed appears to be very old. The flowers only appear on the bark, then the leaves develop.

Here is my first Oranges & Lemons rose opening this morning ...

[IMG] As there was interest in the Cercis(Judas Tree)here are some more pics.It is quite normal for flowers to to sprout from the trunk in more mature spicies, but from a distance it appears like any other tree.
The reason it is called the Judas Tree is that legend has it that this is the tree that Judas hanged himself.

Sis, I love your rose, but I've said this before after seeing it in real.

bobj, I just checked both in Wikipedia as I often need the German names. Was a good pic of the Geum there and I do know what it is now but I had never seen a double like your beautiful one. The Fremontadendron is so interesting, hope it continues to do well.

roders, thanks for the extra pics, that tree is really something else! I would love to see one this size in real.
