Looking good. I presume that is Lantana in the foreground, Lol did you know there is now a trailing Lantana?. I saw a pic in my trade suppliers catalogue, I'm not sure how it would grow in a basket, a little straggly I think, maybe a tub. Your lucky, you can grow it in the ground. Thought it might be of passing interest. [IMG]

Thank you strongy. It's strange, the ones nearer the coast are in full colour already and the ones inland a bit like mine ... ????

Yes, it is Lantana, I have a pink/yellow, solid yellow and white/yellow in a row to blend but have now bought a red/orange to go through it. We keep this about 5-6 foot high but you have to keep it in check weekly at least as it grows so fast.

You can guess by that how tall the Poinsettia is. [IMG] And, of course, that's one of the Jacarandas behind it.

No, I have not heard of a trailing Lantana. I wonder if they are spiney like the shrub? Very difficult to handle. I use a lot of trailing Verbena as it's hardy here ... reminds me of Lantana, has beautiful colours, also attracts butterflies and is not prickly. [IMG]

Sorry, Cutie, I missed you there as I was typing. It looks very pretty actually in this environment. [IMG] I'll be putting more pictures up as it develops. I cut it back to 1 meter every year and it goes to over 3 by Christmas.

strongy, I meant to say above that I know the Lantana camara is of the Verbenaceae. Also, as you probably know it is frost tolerant to a certain degree and dies back to the ground, re-growing from the roots ... but I don't know how sustained the frost must be to kill it.

I have never tried Lantana outside here although it is sold as a summer patio plant. Don't the leaves have a pleasant 'aroma'. :D

strongy, supposedly "they" say the leaves smell like cat pee! Now I've had cats for 40 years and to be honest, hand on heart, I cannot say that's what the leaves smell like. They are not pleasant, but ...

This reminds me of the conversation with you, pete, and Jacaranda leaves dropping smelling like rotting teabags or some such like ... ????

Butterflies love both ... now, doesn't that tell you guys something? [IMG]

Pete, believe me, if you can grow your Lantana taller than knee deep to a goose, it will shred your arms ... telling something secret about me now. [IMG]

Oh, I have some oldish plants, one which is grown as a standard, probably 6yrs old.
As to the smell of the leaves, I think its not bad, fruity maybe with a touch of cats pee. :D

The jacaranda leaves only smell when wet.
