My pleasure Sheal - for the weather problems that you had early this year you certainly weathered it with all the beautiful pics that you have posted since!

Thanks again Annie. Yes, the island did get off to a really slow start, but the roses in particular have put on a wonderful display and still are, not bad considering it's their first year. :)

A few bit and pieces. Amazing that we are into the 2nd week of October and no frosts yet...any day soon tho I fear.I couldn't resist taking a photo of the Rudbeckia (Marmalade I think). It's been in full bloom for 10 to 12 WEEKS. Not sensational but colourful so late in the season. Picture 004.jpg Picture 021.jpg Picture 019.jpg Picture 017.jpg Picture 028.jpg

Oh thank you Simbad and Jenny. Yes we have had a pretty good Autumn, still incredibly dry and only a short period when it was fairly windy. I expect because gardens in Scotland start later than you down South my garden is keeping going longer. I have to say tho I have never known the Rudbeckia to be quite so good. Yes Simbad it is a Gentian and afraid to admit I can't for the life of me remember which variety!!! whoops. I will have a scout about on the net and see if I can find which 1 it is. Very easy, doesn't bulk up quickly tho mores the pity. Gorgeous day here with clear blue skies could well equal a humdinger of a frost tonight and that will be the end of what's been a great year. If you believe the scaremongers next month we'll be up to our eyeballs in snow...hmm we'll see!

Please no frosts yet got so many butternut squash on the allotment that need fetching in :hate-shocked:
We've had solid rain since friday night but a bit of blue sky showing now :hapydancsmil:
Remember trying to grow gentians years ago but they didn't survive here, we do have two different soils here though heavy clay and another area with soil that was brought in when we did the garden which is quite sandy, can't for the life of me remember where I planted them, for some reason I've got in in my head they need specific conditions  but just googled and they're not as fussy as I've always thought, may give them another go.

Funny you should say that Simbad about Gentians I thought they were difficult too. I was actually given the Gentian as a present and thought it wouldn't grow here...wrong. It has survived 2 hideous winters here with not a murmur of annoyance! My bet would be to go for the sandy soil rather than clay. We definitely are on the sandy side where mine seems happy. I stand corrected if others know more about them that I do which wouldn't be difficult:heehee: I'll keep my fingers crossed for no frost so you can get your Butternut Squashes in.
