I thought the same thing Verdun, dont forget about the Heleniums :yay:. Your Salvia are rather impressive, I cant see them getting that big here.

Yes, it is a superb plant Gary.....Margaret Wilson is just a bit different that's all; the foliage is real classy. But here one plant of Rozanne covers almost 3 metres across, one metre high with flowers massed all summer. Easy, eye catching and weed suppressing. You cannot really go wrong with it.:)

I agree the foliage on the Margaret Wilson is very colourful. It would positively shine in the sun in that position. It doesn't grow too high either. I am very familiar with the Eponymous lady. In my Scotland presentation I included a lovely copy of an oil painting depicting the awful episode.

If I were to plant there should I try to improve the soil first. I have fresh manure, bark and more topsoil I could use.

Fresh manure is never a good idea when planting. margaret Wilson likes decent soil and some shade so I would mix in pelleted chicken manure or similar after turning the soil a little.
You can dig in fresh manure now if you dont intend planting anything until spring. :)

Gary, I agree with Verdun. :blue thumb: Cyclamen will grow there but there is parts of the middle of the summer when there's nothing showing.

Our Cyclamen flower April and Aug/Sept (sometimes late November as well) and look lovely when in flower. After the flowers finish then the ground gets covered in their leaves, but when the leaves die back there's just bare soil for a couple of months.

Some of our plants are still going fairly well but others are virtually finished.

This is not our garden! It's from the Lakeland Horticultural Society Gardens. Don't have time to show much at the moment but just to whet your appetite. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

You have some great plants there Shiney :). Like it too that you give them all space to grow to their max.
Annuals not my "bag" really martin but I always grow cosmos; who can fail to enjoy them?
