pete your yucca is lovely, i planted one years ago but have had no flower yet, the leaves are healthy and there is quite a lot of new growth this year.

How long does the flower usually take to show?

Its now walnut, the flowers are just opening on the top of the spike.
The flowering time varies from species to species, but other factors come into it as well, such as how much heat and sunshine the plant gets.
This one is about ten years old and eight feet high, its interesting because its one of the more tree like yuccas, and can get pretty tall.
Its not one of the hardiest, so I am particually pleased to see it flower.

Dahlias. Sometime a simple arrangement can be quite effective.

I have had no flowers on my bougainvillea all summer. It flowered all through the winter. I noticed buds last night, I think I must have an Australian one.

A lot of them do bloom better in the winter, Rich. Out of my six climbers (have the one shrub one as well) this one pictured is the only one flowering as such and it's only the bottom half of it; the shrub is flowering as well. The rest are just starting like yours. It's taken this one six years to establish as well and I massacre it in the winter / spring.

wonderful roders, was going to say marvellous, but I cant spell it. :D
Is that a named variety, it looks exeptionally good.
I think its been a bit too dry for them this summer, now its cooling down and a bit more humid they're coming on a treat.

This glorious Indian Summer just goes on and on...

Cyclamen are my favourite autumn flowers. Hard to get estabished from the dry corms you buy, but they will spread happily if they like you.

Sedum spectabile Autumn Joy is a great favourite with late feeding butterflies and bees

Japanese Anemones are flowers of late summer. They like a rich moisture retaining soil.

Most fuschias are tender and will look great until the first frosts destroy them

Gorgeous Welsh Poppies have been in flower since the spring. They will not be happy in beds, but seed themselves between paving slabs and anywhere else where they can keep their roots cool and moist. The very distinctive lime green leaves are instantly recognizable so you can pull up any seedlings from places where you don't want them.
