Being on dry, sandy soil and having limited time to spend in the garden at home, I've adopted an 'if it's happy here, seeds itself around and looks good, it's ok with me' approach to managing the garden.

The result is a 'naturalistic' looking garden, not necessarily very tidy, but full of colour and odd plant combinations which constantly shift and change.

An unexpected combination of yellow loosestrife, campanula and lychnis growing in a narrow, dry bed against a wall. All self-seeded.

        001.JPG

The herbaceous bed, a mixture of planted and self-seeded, cultivated and wild flowers, an absolute magnet for bees and other insects.

        004.JPG

Wild flower patch. Mostly poppies and white campion at the moment, with a few foxgloves too.

Parsley, allowed to flower and seed, so there will be plenty more next year.

        013.JPG

Campanula and lychnis, growing happily side by side. Didn't plant them there, don't know if the colour combination works, but looks ok to me.

                Looks excellent, Trunky :blue thumb:

We, also, leave self-seeded plants and I think that any combination of colours looks good in a natural setting.

Sweet peas are looking good. Purchased some from a specialist sweet pea seller and planted them in cold greenhouse last November. First time I have tried seeds from a specialist and autumn planting. I purchased the Winston variety and one pot facing south is already 5ft tall and very strong. The 2nd pot facing west is about 4ft at the moment, both are starting to flower and we have already picked some and they smell lovely when you walk in the conservatory.

Also tried sweet peas for hanging baskets, 1st lot were a failure to germinate but 2nd lot are ok.Still growing but they look like they also will be a winner, fingers crossed.
