What's looking good MARCH 2024

That's interesting @Michael Hewett. All mine are growing in sandy, free draining soil. The climate is quite mild here as we are surrounded on three sides by water. I don't have room for a greenhouse so everything I grow has to be tough! I've found that the plain green leaved varieties are very reliable and they seem to enjoy my poor soil!

 

We get a lot of rain here and although the weather is generally mild I think it's too wet for them to be out in the winter.
My soil is nice and loamy and free draining but we get so much rain I don't think they like it. I've lost a few over the years so I play it safe now and keep them in pots.

 

First attempt to post a picture! Our giant magnolia is in flower! We have to enjoy it while we can, as it’s very tall, and the flowers don’t last very long in the wind. Not sure how tall it is, but at a guess at least one and a half times the height of a two storey house.

 

I have E. Fireglow whose buds are just starting to show above ground and a small purple leaved one in a shady spot that is not yet showing any signs of life. Up here is way behind you other folk!

Lovely photos here. I see you have Osmanthus burkwoodii @Sienna's Blossom - it's much further ahead than mine. It's a great shrub to have. I had a look at the other thread with your garden pix- really lovely.
I took some pix yesterday, so I'll have a go at adding them here...

Hellebore Blue Lady and some common primulas starting to flower


This is White Lady - it's quite varied, with some being pure white and some having dark spotting


This is a hellebore another forum member sent me some years ago. It's a cross between a pink one called Tutu, and a white of some kind. It's been a bit nibbled and wrecked by weather, but it's very pretty



The next two should be grand in another week or so Tulipa humilis Odalisque. It'll be good when it gets a bit more sun, and I'll probably move it into another site soon

A rare moment this morning, a blue sky and sunshine! This bamboo, Phyllostachys aureosulcata, was a welcome sight with its rich, golden canes. Plus Anemone blanda responding to the sun.
