Hi Caroline, no secret formula I'm afraid, I think they just like our soil and climate because I see an awful lot of them around the village in other people's front gardens.
If it helps, we're in the low lying land between the Kent Downs and the East Sussex High Weald, which means neutral to slightly acidic soils (unlike the Downs), dry summers and very mild winters.

@AdrianBg thanks - we can manage the mild winters but it's the dry summer that's difficult!

We bought the one below in 2020, but I forgot the name.

The Hebe is flowering soon. It's in the corner where the Spring plants are because the sun reaches here the ground in the morning hours in March.

They have never looked so happy before I moved them to my old bed and where they came into a proper prepared soil.

The first one is Iberis sempervirens and the 2nd one looks like Rosemary

Thank you very much for the Iberis sempervirens :)
I'm a great fan of Rosemary & Thyme (the programme on telly).

I wish I was as knowledgeable as the character 'Rosemary', she seems to know everything about plants

Yes bought it last year, but the label disappeared. I wrote in my notes last year: a Hebe.

The hellebores and daffodil pond are still going strong. The hellebores have been flowering since before Christmas. The celandines have now joined the party and are flowering all over the slope. Need to prune that buddleia in the foreground this weekend. 2025-03-19_12-41-04.jpg

The notched edges on the leaves suggest Osmanthus to me.

They suggested all sorts of species to me but having looked up Hebes a bit more, I'm not going to argue with Simone
