          A divided fern donated to me, not sure of the type. I can’t remember it ever looking this good.

            @NigelJ I saw those echiums growing in Torquay and had a go myself - ended up with what looked like a cabbage on a stalk, which the winter finished off. Your climate is so much milder down there.

              @cactus girl yes the climate is milder down here, but I have had times when a cold east wind has finished off the top half of the flower leaving a funny looking flowering stump and some times it will take up to 3 years to flower.
              The big downside is the tendency to seed all over and I pull out dozens every year I have flowers. Normally I see masses of insects on them, mainly bees and hoverflies but this year very few so far.

                              I'm amazed at how much more advanced some of your gardens are than ours in south Norfolk. Roses here are in bud, not flower, alliums are nowhere near out, nor is the peony or the ceanothus. However, self seeded aquilegias are out.
