Yes I really bought it for the leaves but something always seems to have a nibble of the young leaves as they open, someone told me its sparrows but never seen them or anything else attacking them.

Sparrows have taken to ripping off the young leaves on our Bamboo. Watched 'em doing it many times. They can't balance on the end of the new canes though so I always end up with luxurious tufts at the end of sparse canes. But luckily they usually leave a few canes alone so it doesn't look too bad overall.

Clematis cirrhosa is looking good, heralding the beginnings of wintry weather. Too dark outside, to take a photo!

A bizarre combo - the primroses flower all year round here, but the ajuga is having another session which has never happened before.

These nasturtiums [tip top mahogany] go a lovely colour as they get mature

The weirdest of all this year - I must have missed Christmas - and when did Easter happen?

Ajuga also still flowering in the garden here but its not that unusual here for some to flower a second time at some stage during the year. Nasturtiums on the other hand don't look like they will get to bloom this year before the colder weather sets in with the cool summer and becoming a bit overgrown looking to have worked against them.
            Ajuga:

Also had some other blooms newly emerged:
            Winter flowering honeysuckle:
            20241116_133726.jpg
Winter flowering Jasmine which I think is blooming for the first time since planting a few years back so hopefully a sign it is getting more established:

Nerines are much better this year. Must be getting suitably crowded :)

Those camellias are looking great @noisette47 . I love them but I gave up on them as they so often get destroyed by weather here - just as they're starting to flower!
That's interesting re the ajuga @Macraignil . I've had it in every garden I've ever had, often just arriving by itself, and it's never repeat flowered. A really useful ground cover plant though. The nasturtiums go on forever though. I have a random one under my bedroom window which wasn't sown, and it's still looking great - put it on supports as it's vigorous, so it's a nice little 'climber'. I don't like the foliage on it [variegated] but I didn't mind as it was covered with bees all summer. I'll leave it to seed/ spread though.

The sun's out this morning so I thought I would get a few pics of plants still in flower, before the anticipated cold snap this week.

Hydrangea Lanark White has grown enormous this year, with all the wet weather. The flower heads are at their most decorative at this time of year I think, last well if cut and brought indoors too:
                    PB172777.JPG

A slightly confused primula, amidst hardy geranium and arum leaves:
                    PB172775.JPG

Salvia sagittata Blue Butterflies - new this year. Love its distinctive arrowhead leaves, as well as the flowers!
                    PB172769.JPG

The 'Fragola' grape vine has now coloured, and begun shedding its leaves. It produced and ripened quite a few ripe bunches of grapes this year, small but sweet - amber-coloured dessert variety, with a faint flavour of strawberries, hence the name.

I overdid the gardening this morning and had a struggle keeping my hands steady for taking photos

I dug over a couple of beds and this second one did my back and arms in :rolleyespink:

Some plants are at the end of their season and some just starting

Some of the grasses look quite good with the sun shining through

Arum italcum just coming into leaf all over the garden. We regularly have to dig some up as they spread very quickly but Mrs Shiney uses thm a lot in flower arranging
