An amaryllis my daughter gave to me last Christmas has produced a large flower bud which is beginning open into spectacular bright red flowers. A bit early for Christmas but still enjoyable. Lots of hardy cyclamen popping up through the overgrown grass and in stone walling. Also what I know as schyzostylus major, Peruvian Lily I think is its garden name. There has been a couple of name changes during the last few years, reclassification or something. Bright scarlet flowers like miniature gladioli or freesias? My cream ginger lilies are coming into their own and my Queen of the Night succulent is getting ready to burst open its 4 flower buds. The berries on the callicarpa are also forming, ready to colour up for the winter. The apples are beginning to turn colour but the wasps already have their eyes on them.

I love the purply hue in that photo. :blue thumb:

The colours on your Billbergia are astonishing, @Michael Hewett. A new plant to me.

One of my osteospermums. Been in flower continuously since Feb.

I overwinter mine by lugging them into the garage if temps look like going below 4 degrees overnight. Doing this, they pretty much have buds and flowers all yr, except in very hot spells in summer when they opt for a rest. :blue thumb:

Thank you ... Yours look lovely to me @Victoria

Thank you. It's an easy plant to grow. It lives outside in the summer but in winter I put it in an unheated greenhouse.

I don't know, but they do need a free draining compost. I've got them in multipurpose compost with added grit.
They usually flower in late winter/spring. I had a surprise to see this one flowering now.
Do you want one ? I've got some rooted offshoots ...

Over the week, I saw a last attempt by a foxglove and it had bells, which however didn't last long enough.

After I had cut the plants in August, the Achillea has decided to try it again and shows now 2 flower stems.

The Hardy Geraniums also have a second flush.
