Autumn/Winter container.



Calamagrostis Overdam flowers with Persicaria Fat Domino.



Phormium Tricolor. This has doubled in size since my neighbour removed a large conifer behind it giving much more sun. (The conifer was an eyesore, he had beheaded it a couple of years earlier, making it look worse than it did before .)



Heuchera Forever Purple.



Cortaderia Pumila (dwarf Pampas Grass).

 

A very reliable fuchsia, comes up each spring in a pot. I would like to take some cuttings in case it fails during the winter, but don’t know how to do that. I was assuming I could find a non flowering shoot to cut off and stick in water to root, but all the branches have flowers on the ends, and more buds ready to open.

Bought this for next to nothing from the end of season rack at the supermarket. It has done really well, and provided a welcome splash of colour. Everything else in the garden is now green!

 

We had visitors this week, and one of them showed an image of a chicken on a lead. They have 3 chickens and the kids go daily on a walk with them. In London, if it matters.
I just asked myself if there are leads for squirrels available.

 

What beautiful photos! There's a channel on YouTube called "Squirrels at the Window" where a woman feeds squirrels from her apartment window; she can recognise dozens of individuals and has given them names. She has a chipmunk visiting too.

 

@Ergates you can easily root Fuchsia cuttings in water or in potting compost. If you're worried about the buds you can remove them.

I planted a couple of tiny Mrs Popple earlier in the year, I hope they do as well as yours!

 

Thanks, mine is very old.
Just something useful to remember when planting a hardy Fuchsia - plant it a bit deeper than it is in the pot, because that will protect the base of the stems from severe cold if we have a bad winter, and it has a better chance of growing back next spring.

 

@Michael Hewett, do you by any chance know the name of the patio rose? it's lovely. as are all your plants.

 

Still plenty of colour in the garden, thanks to Heleniums, Echinacea, Rudbeckia, Aster and Sedum. These are all growing in a sunny corner that must have once been gravelled over, and is now a mix of soil and gravel. The paved area in the background is my neighbour's.




Astrantia "Shaggy" has put up some fresh flower spikes. This was a new bare root in the spring, and has done very well. The Astrantia "Sparkling Stars Pink" which I bought at the same time has vanished without trace.

And this orange cosmos which self-seeded in one of my pots has flowered for months with regular dead-heading

 

Since there is no plant in my garden which I haven't shown you, it's difficult to be so creative.
