I was about to say Camelia and Chrysanthamum when I got as far as Gazania's post so I'm just adding that I've had a Camelia in a pot since 1994 and it's flowered beautifully every year. Mine has smaller than usual deep red flowers but I've lost the label and can't remember the variety sorry.

I've got Camellias, Rhodos, Azaleas in containers and they don't mind at all. The Rhododendrons do particularly well.

Good luck and please may we see pics of your progess? :blue thumb:

Great video dim. I've seen a thousand photos of gardens in Japan and they never cease to amaze me. Obviously in this video we are seeing the masters at work. But anyone thinking of making a Japanese garden couldn't help but get ideas from this video that could be adapted in their own space no matter what the size.
Another book that springs to mind which I have used before is 'Japanese Gardens in a Weekend' - Robert Ketchell. Within 2 weeks of buying the book years ago I had built a simple 'Waiting Arbour' that would be used outside a teahouse in Japan for sitting before entering the house. A little covered weather proof area I could sit for ages looking over the garden. A good book for ideas.
And clum, how good do 2 different coloured acers look together ? This isn't an autumn photo either, I only took it a couple of months ago. Similar trees in raised beds would look great.

Just thought I'd post a photo of a new planter being built in my Japanese Garden next to the wisteria. The start:-

You could always start a rock garden; those are big in Japan. ;) Or plant a cherry blossom tree if one will take in your area.

That's looking good clum. I was only wondering today how you are getting on. The planter is looking cool in that black. So what is going in your planter ?
I like you potted plants, and that wisteria looks really good.
