There are two major reasons that Epsom Salt is said to help out in the garden. It helps with chlorophyll production by making it easier for plants to get nutrients from the sun, and it helps them absorb more fertilizing chemicals from the soil, making any applied fertilizers more effective. In some cases, an Epsom Salt solution sprayed onto a plant may even help to ward off pests.Sequestered iron does the same job as epsom salts they both help with the uptake of manganese necessary to prevent chlorosis(yellowing of leaves).pro's approach applying sulphur does a similar job but also helps get rid of blackspot and mildew, try one or the other but not everything at once, another thing you can check if your soil has the right acidity it shouldn't be to alkaline for roses not above 7.5 on the ph scale you can get test kits from the garden centers.

Morning Wiseold, thank you for this. As I said, I have 3 or 4 others in similar sized pots, same medium, same fod etc etc and they're not doing this yellow bit. They're planted in peat-free compost. To be truthful, I WON'T buy it again, I don't like it. Doesn't hold water well. I'm off to buy some Epsom Salts - might even have a bath meself later.........

Many thanks for the above. It's the first time I've heard of Epsom Salts for plants! Must be an old remedy. Anyway, I'm taking careful note of what I'm being told here and hopefully get it right soon!!
