    I look for a fairly straight piece of new growth more than 12" long.
    Strip off the bottom half of leaves and any flowers. Cut the tip off (dunno if it helps but worked on the pricking off to bush out theory)
    Dip in rooting compost (I don't always - I don't know if it really makes a difference here) and just push down into the soil in my nursery area.
    This seems to work for me. I've probably grown on a dozen or more like this for my own and others use.

    That's exactly what I've done, various times sheal, without success. I'm going to try again this year! More grit needed in the soil maybe....?

    I used a multi purpose compost Lorea. They do take some weeks to root though.
