I would like a walk around there myself Pete!
What about a roof that was a large water tank, which could explain the piers? The bracket may have been part of the gutter and outlet device. Perhaps the building could have been a kennel for his Lordships own hound pack.
I have seen lintels cut like that when the internal floor has been built up during renovation /alteration..could it be because of the blue'kerbing' I see?
On the old Estates it does appear that the hounds were better housed than the land workers,so it just might have been it's original use.

If you look at this you will find its called Mote House and if you follow the compass points you will find its situated in (suprisingly) Mote Park. It was a deer park at one stage, my father used to talk of deer being there before the second war.
Hounds, possible but I dont know.
That kerbing inside a building is strange.

Looks as if it's going to become a very exclusive complex!..And if it's anything like Northwick Park, once the home of the Spencer family here in Glostershire with a park and lake open to all, then the entire grounds will be out of bounds to all but residents.

No, Pal, luckily its council owned, so if they try to ban me I'll not comply. :D

As I remember, (as its been talked about for years), There is a restaurant planned for the ground floor and apartments above. But some of the gardens are going to be built on and the stables are to be converted, I think for housing for the older generation.

Sounds a bit crowded to me, they're going to have to build a road in there for all the traffic thats going to generate, and parking.
Bet they get it wrong, it will all be an after thought.

The cows were there when I was young, I remember having to dodge the cow pats, and back in 1963 I remember some idiot driving a mini onto the frozen lake. My mate went through then we tried walking across, luckily without any real problems.

Just come home form the pub and have had a few falling down waters but had a thought that the metal crossbow thing could have been for a salt lick for the horses? :D [IMG]

Thats a possible marge, hope you enjoyed youself. [IMG]
Took this one this morning by balancing on a pile of bricks, so its a bit cock-eyed.

Its the out side of the buildings, the left hand end is the building with the columns the far right is the two storey part that goes below ground.
The opening with the beveled lintel is at the left end, the next opening along is behind those columns.
Had a closer look at the kerbing running around the room, it appears to be slate or possibly black marble or granite with the same material for a skirting.

The clock tower is in need of restoration, It will be interesting to see if this gets rebuilt, or, as it will not serve any purpose these days, the cost of repair will make it not worth it.
