Whats wrong with my Banana plant

    Yep, I think I would plant it out and see what happens, hope for a mild winter next year, thats providing that we do actually get a summer this year. :D

    I dont wrap mine, I just leave them to it, thats providing its basjoo.
    But the priority is to get as much top growth as possible this summer.
    It would probably survive and reshoot from the ground if it did get badly frosted, but thats not the ideal situation to start from next year.

    I thougth you were ment to cut the leaves off,protect it and it would grow another 3 ft, or if you leave it as is it will die back to the ground and grow from the ground again.

    If you get a decent stem and the winter is not severe, it will overwinter OK.

    Pete I have to wrap mine in fleece if I dont it will go die back to ground level.

    Pete You live in a warmish area so its ok to leave it in its birthday suit.

    Its not that warm here in the winter Fancy.
    Last winter was pretty mild, I think in most parts of the UK, but the year before was frosty.

    I tend to think that as long as the frost is intermittant and the plant can thaw out each day then they usually are alright.
    Continuous frost is the big problem, when it gets harder each day and the plant is frozen for a week or so. Fleece will not protect the stem from that, a good reason to plant where it can catch winter sunshine.
