Every day here is different. It also looks like we skipped summer this year, it's definitely autumn here. Heatings on this evening. :(

Same as yesterday here; after a lovely fresh start it has now gone very warm (bit too warm for me), with a light breeze, just the odd cloud here and there...

on a side note but related to weather ...

on another forum, (not a gardening forum) people in the USA are today reporting that autumn is a month and a half too early this year? ...

leaves have already started falling .... deer are restless and moving in herds...

acer's have been dying in canada (some say it could be a fungal disease ) ... c rab apple trees are almost bare ... willows are loosing their leaves too early etc etc

amanitas in parts of the US have started popping up (a month and a half too early)

someone in west germany is stating that the nut trees have much more nuts than normal, and is an indication of extreme cold to come

and these comments are just from normal folk who know very little about gardening .... the consensus is that winter will be extremely cold

also read some comments on another forum stating that if there are a lot of berries on the berry producing trees in the UK at this time of year, .... the winter will be very cold in the UK ....

and many are saying that the berries are much more than normal for this time of year (and much more than last year the same time, bearing in mind that we had the coldest temp in 100yrs ) ....

I don't know if that is old wife's tales, but will be interesting to see what happens in the next few months ... :(

I think we have had the old berry weather folklore before Dim.

Remember what it was like during the spring?

A nice warm sunny April and May.

How a plant can foretell the weather is beyond me.

It can only react to the weather that has gone or is happening now.

      Good for you, Bilbo :dbgrtmb:

Yesterday morning was very heavy rain and hot sunshine in the afternoon. Heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast for today and tomorrow but cry at the moment. I hope the forecast for sunny on Monday is correct (but I won't hold my breath) as we are going to a Chilli Festival.

I always have my reservations about the efficacy of water butts in our, now more extreme, climate. When we are having a drought (we had nearly three months without rain this year) there is no rain to fill the butts and when we have lots of rain we don't need the butts

When we had the last hosepipe ban the water in our four butts lasted three days of watering. :cry3:

we are lucky here in the UK

some people in the USA are panicing and buying emergency provisions including water, tinned foods, pet food etc

Hurricane Irene will cause chaos in some parts if it continues on the current simulated computer trajectory:

Hurricane Irene : 5 Day Forecast Map : Weather Underground

I just hope that it shifts and moves seawards

      :(
