It's been cloudy but dry for the last few days but today we had some sunshine amid cloudy skies and a top temperature of 61f. It's strange when we start getting cooler days the Sun when it does come out seems to be warmer than during the Summer!! Right now the temperature is 53f and the pressure reading is 998hpa.
There seems to be some doubt about where the "remnants" of Hurricane "Ophelia" will travel on Monday and Tuesday , either over Ireland and into Scotland or further East trundling over the West Country, Wales, the Midlands and the Northwest........we might have to batten down the hatches.

There's probably some scientific explanation for that @ARMANDII. Could it be because it's lower in the sky?

American wind speeds are lower than ours, so what they call hurricane will probably be a gale or severe gale here. I think it'll be a strong breeze. :snorky: My son says 50mph is classified as storm force in America.

I'm not sure about that, Sheal:scratch::doh: Actually, when you think about it, the lower the Sun is in the skies the more atmosphere it has to "shine" through to get to you, so it should be cooler:dunno:

Yesterday started off quite nippy after a very clear night. Then the sun came out, after morning lie-in, and it turned out a sunny and warm day with temps reaching 67F (19.5C).

This morning it's already 61F (16C) and I'm waiting for the sunrise.

A lovely sunny day but with a strong wind blowing making it hard work to mow the lawn. 17C/63F

I dont actually think wind speeds are lower in the US.

As far as I know anything over 73 mph is considered a Hurricane force wind, you need to bear in mind that is sustained wind speed, not gusts.

We get gusts well above that on many occasions, but not often sustained.

Also Hurricanes can really only form over very warm water, as they move in land or over cooler water they lose intensity.
