Snap @Sheal we too have flurries of the white stuff altho we have much less than you. We have now had about 1/4 inch of snow so far this winter which is pretty well a 1/4 inch more than last winter. I have that nasty feeling we are in for a humdinger of a winter. Thank god we have had wood burning stove mk2 installed.
Central heating is all very well and EXPENSIVE but a wood burner gives off huge amounts of heat really quickly in comparison. Yes it's true there is also a "heating element" (commonly referred to as hard work!) from processing the wood and bringing it into the house but while I am still vaguely in 1 piece I will continue to use the burners rather than the central heating.

It's chilly here - the pond was frozen over - but it didn't stop me getting out into the garden in my wellies .

Sunny and bright, with clear blue skies all day with a slight breeze, and a top temperature of 44f. Then the cloud arrived from the West and North at around 5pm, as they did last night, which has put paid to any hopes of using the Observatory tonight:wallbanging::dunno: So, at the moment, the temperature is 36f and the pressure reading is 993hpa.:coffee::snorky:

I think you're right @silu, it's going to be a long cold and probably snowy winter.

We're nursing our central heating system as it's on it's last legs and although we're booked for a new system, the chap that's replacing it isn't free until the end of January. :doh:We also have a wood/oil burner that's connected to the central heating boiler via a back boiler but we can't use that either because we can't trust the central heating boiler to adjust for it. We'll have the back boiler removed when the new system is put in so that it frees up the burner completely.

The boiler is very basic @silu so won't take much to keep it functioning temporarily, but should it give up the ghost we have an idea or two for heating. We've also got a couple of 13 tog duvets if needs be, it won't be the first time we've used those.

It's been 1C/34F all day and is currently -1C/30F so not much of a drop overnight at the moment.

I've also offered Shineyland :blue thumb:

It was -3C on the car gauge when I got home from bridge last night. The sun is shining brightly (in a completely clear sky ) this morning but the frost isn't going, yet.
