As I'm only watering vegetables, I don't see any difference [1] between me watering my own stuff 5 mins walk from home using the minimum amount required, or driving to buy from a supermarket who've trucked it in from sub-regional depots, where it's been trucked from regional depots, where it's been trucked from where commercial growers use at least as much water (and I could go on further).

[1] Hmmm, maybe there is a difference, and my own veg has less of an environmental impact.


P.S. Anybody remember the big drought many, many years ago when a section of the Thames started flowing backwards? I think it was at Northmoor near Oxford as I went fishing there at the time just to watch my float heading off upstream.

 

We have just got back from watering the lottie veggies and we had to have the AC on full as we drove home and the car temperature was showing 28c in the shade

Our early spud foliage (Sutton’s Foremost)has been collapsing this week and now some of that foliage has gone brown and crisp.Mr Kandy is panicking thinking it is blight but there were no brown splodges on the leaves before they collapsed so I assured him they were just getting ready for harvesting and the heat is speeding things up,as we are not watering them

Also have seen butterfly trees in flower and am not sure whether they are early or whether it is the correct time for them to bloom here in the East Midlands

 

Until it gets really hot I'm not going to take too much notice of the temps. its summer and we are actually getting one, quite rare really, even though the "experts" drone on about climate change and global warming.

That said, in a shower today we had 1mm of rain.
Basically all it did was boost the humidity once the sun came out again.
I'm going to enjoy it, it could all end at any time.

 

Beware of potato scab caused by dry soil around the tubers.

 

A nice hot day with variable amounts of sun at the Hampton Court Flower Show, 28c when we arrived after a 3hr journey and 32c when we left. No showers but humid so the air conditioned coach was welcome.

 

Getting boring now 28/83 . And getting worse on Sunday and through next week.

Well woke at 6am ...yes I had to double check the clock I was myself

again as always...same old tale ...temp inside 61F and humid already :exhausted::fan: tops is 79F and the rest

 

Cor, we have some light rain forcast for the 19th July, only 13 days to wait for it


My bonfire pile at the plot is getting enormous, but I daren't torch it because I might start a huge grass/scrub fire and set the neighbouring gardens alight.
