So true! I have to say, had it not been for our local farmers we would have been snowed in here. Thankfully, they were out and about clearing roads - despite it being lambing time. I do know the farm in the next village tried to get as many of his sheep into shelters before the worst arrived, but those biting winds were something else. I've got my for them.

 

Raining here, still some lying snow but has been thawing all night, temp crept up to 7C.

 

We've had a bit of sunshine and the paths are drying up. My wallflowers are coming back to life.

 

These photos were taken about about 5 days before the beast struck, everything is now under about 10/12 inches of snow and have been for nearly a week. Of course all the bulbs will survive but the flowers I expect will be ruined (the Aconites and Crocus for sure, maybe the Snowdrops might be ok but it could be April before the snow decides to you know what off). We all know that famous gardening expression....there is always next year when something goes west

 

A sunny day (the showers forecast never materialised) and a warm 10c tempered by a strong SW wind, at least the snow has now gone.

 

@silu My fingers are crossed for you. I love the way your aconites frame your lawn. I was thinking of something similar on a smaller scale. I currrently have 5 aconite pots. I think it might take a while before there is enough of them to spread that far around. Are there any perrenials in there waiting to push through? Could other later blooming bulbs work in the same location?

We knew we weren't going to escape it here but this is the fifth fall of snow here since November. It started early afternoon and the picture below was taken around 4pm. This lochan sits in the valley below my garden and has been frozen for weeks. The second picture was taken two hours later and it's still snowing here now. Temperature today -1C/30F.

 

Are you stocked up with essentials, @Sheal ? It looks a bit parky there *brrr*!

 

Yes, we're fine thanks @"M" . It felt warmer out there today at -1C/30F than it did yesterday at 2C/36F, but it's been around this temperature for several weeks now apart from the occasional day at 5C/41F or 6C/43F.

 

I'm shivering at the thought!!!

 

It's surprising what we get used too.

 

Thank you @Jack Sparrow . Yes there are some Tulips to follow on, Hostas, Heucheras for foliage interest during the growing season, species Lilies, Galtonia (hope they will have survived this harsh winter) and Autumn Crocus. There are also some stray Daffodils,. I thought i'd lifted them all and replanted them en mass but missed quite a few If the weather/time allows I'll try and lift those I've missed as don't want Daffodils there. I have a lot elsewhere a la in the photo below!
