Europe heatwave: Records tumble in Belgium and Netherlands Records tumble as Europe swelters in heatwave

I’ve just seen that a Eurostar train broke down near Halle. That’s about 10 miles from me! (A different train line to the one that goes through my town, though, so hubby should be ok getting home from the capital).

Also, that the record of 38.9c was broken a few hours later by 39.9c. Generally, the temperature will not start to ease until 8pm. I’ve actually got most of the windows closed at the moment, as I want to keep the coolish air in. It’s currently about 28-30c indoors, and still 36c outside.

Come 8pm, I will open the upstairs windows, and water the plants. Then, we will brace ourselves for tomorrow which is supposed to be warmer again...

Saw some lightning last night so got out of bed to close up the cold frame at 12.30am, it was still 27c, overnight min was 23.8C, cant remember a warmer night:scratch:
          Anyway, no rain.
Lets see what tomorrow brings,..... its a bit warm in the workshop.

We were on a storm warning up here last night but once again the forecasters got it wrong. 27C/81F in my sunny but breezy garden this morning so I hibernated until mid afternoon. With a mixture of cloud and sun the temperature dropped to a reasonably comfortable 22C/72F, so I took the opportunity and mowed the lawns postponed from yesterday.

Anyway, a glorious morning and a glorious day to come .....but cooler. Should be 25 degrees or so unlike the extreme 30’s elsewhere
Stay cool and safe folks :)

It was 23c again first thing this morning, now up to 29c.... looks like we might be crossing the 40c barrier today!
I’m going to be hiding indoors - already too hot out there!

                            Hi,

Thanks for your kind comment Logan. I can't use the Colt mower here on the mountain but I'll be keeping it just to tinker around with and to fire up occasionally; I've just bought a TIG welder so plan to make from scratch a new petrol tank for the Colt. :)

I've just carried my trolley jack and two bottle jacks up to the lower hut to store them out of the way; I've finally got around to topping the jacks up with correct jack oil; another small job done; I need to make workshop space for the TIG welder; what I really need is a warehouse then I could really go mad buying lots of toys.

Anything over 10C here is regarded as an heatwave; I'm just pleased Blackie and Gale are giving me a bit of peace for a change; next week it could revert back to winter.

                            Kind regards, Colin.

A bit humid but I'm taking little tasks at a steady pace, drinking elderflower drinks and have a fan at the ready if needed.
So nice if you can take it easy....
