Hi,

I mentioned earlier that I was going to help Paul our neighbours gardener out with repairing and servicing his gardening machinery because Paul keeps being ripped off paying out lots of money for the simplest repairs. I can't believe anyone would do the control cable bodge I've sorted out this morning; Paul dropped the petrol mower off yesterday and has collected it this afternoon costing him nothing other than a bar of dark chocolate which is thanks enough as we're just helping him out as a friend.

Paul's machine servicing guy is a real top class bodger; here's the control cable he installed it being far too long so he put a loop in it.


The cable end I cut off showing bits of insulation tape.


Incredibly bad workmanship; the cable was so long he actually wound it round the control bar to remove slack; Paul was charged for this and informed to take it back if there were problems but Paul knew he would be charged for each visit; how do such people sleep at night; Paul hasn't a clue about mechanical things so is easily taken in because he's so soft.

The new "Eye" I made this morning at the top the original eye at the bottom; the one I made is steel the original is alloy.



This is how the cable should have looked like; I've never previously seen a control cable terminated in an eye like this so it caused me a bit of extra head scratching. Cost of repair a bit of gas and solder. Cost to me an enjoyable session in the workshop tinkering around; as Paul said to me he didn't even realize these cables could be shortened; I've played around with this kind of cable for over 50 years so it's just a simple job to me.

Not weather related unless I say I was working in comfort in the workshop without fear of a soaking from Blackie which made a nice change. If only everyone would show a bit of kindness the world would be a much better place.

 

A lot of rain overnight but now it's mostly cloudy with a light breeze. 13C/55F

 

Well they said it would rain all day, but apart from a really heavy downpour before 9am it has been mostly dry and got sunnier as the day has gone on.
From a totally calm start its now pretty blowy, and a max of 17C

 

Non stop rain here all day and the trains have been cancelled due to flooding on the lines from Norwich to the coast

 

Sunny intervals and warmish afternoon.

 

Absolutely lovely day today, perfect for gardening . Spent about 7hrs out there having only a 30min lunch break.

Blackie playing his favourite tune on our roof again this morning; miserable; gloomy and another black hole so I'll console myself in the workshop.

Not raining at the moment ( in fact it looks surprisingly bright) but we are suppose to get some today. Don't mind as we have friends coming over today, so nothing outside was planned.

 

It's stopped raining until 2pm, just in time when we take the boys out.
