@Jiffy what caring person you are :star:, I find in horrendous when people keep animals and don't keep a check on them.

Takes me back a few years ....before water was piped into one of the fields behind our house. I heard banging one morning and found that it was the horses banging their empty water troughs. It was a baking hot day and hubs was at work , being 8 months pregnant I had to carry buckets of water and squeeze through the padlocked gates...with great difficulty in a very unladylike way. The owners finally turned up at the end of the day. It turned out that they had been reported on before for the way they cared for their horses.

It is a bright breezy morning with 21c going to 32c with the breeze continuing throughout the day. It was much cooler at our friends' house and we really noticed the difference coming home, must have been 3-4c cooler there.

We could see the smoke from the fire in Monchique from our friends house but not ours as we are further East and It was announced that at 7.15am the fire, which had spread to Portimao county by the winds, was under control. I love the way they phrase things ..

"In the theater of operations, for the aftermath work, there are still 445 operational and 154 vehicles. Air assets will also return to action, if necessary."

Another reports less numbers but say there are three helicopters still in operation and I just heard one a few minutes ago.

This was in the afternoon on a beautiful blue sky day (media photo) and you can see how sunny it is by the near houses ...

We have links to on-line up to date fire information.

I hope you stay safe @Victoria
We usually get grass fires on the hills around here but there haven't been any this year thankfully. Sometimes they can get a bit out of control and serious if they spread near houses, but not as bad as the fires in other places, like this one.

It's hot this morning so I'll be sheltering from it later when it gets too much.

I will Michael ... well, I hope so. As we live in the Orange groves, they are evergreen and irrigated and not likely to catch fire. In saying so, some years ago we saw a small fire in one at the edge and it burnt the trees. We suspected a cigarette thrown out a car window into the dry brush. Some folk are thoughtless. We also have pyromaniacs.

The problem is the wind, currently from the NNW at 18 km/h, gusting to 30 km/h and to continue and get stronger through the day!

Beautiful morning, slept in the garden shed last night, with the door wide open.
                      Diva came too.

78F in the shade now, cicadas are hard at it, not much breeze, hot and getting hotter.
I´ve got three cans of draught Guinness in the fridge, I should really save them for tomorrow when a friend comes to help me water the trees ... did I mention it´s hot ?

                        Love the shed/door.

Are you ever concerned with all the trees so close? Like here in o campo, do you have to maintain free a certain distance from the house/outbuildings?

Concerned in winter, quietly terrified in summer.
I have a recognised social duty to strim the grass on my land, wherever it is accessible, as tall dry grass allows a fire to climb the mountain faster than you can run. Cut down it gives you a chance.
I am however, surrounded by land with absent owners, so I´m an island of relative neatness in a sea of tinder.

IMG_1849.jpeg I share my shed with two ukuleles and a gecko, (who fell in an open 5litre water bottle yesterday, that had a few inches of water in, and had to be rescued).

Thanks Victoria, with a popular footpath through the garden it´s a bit of a gamble, but the house has little wood in it, and I´m hoping it would be a safe refuge.
