Still just topping 40C in the main garden as it retains the heat because of being surrounded by buildings, trees and hedges. Front garden is 37C, bottom of back garden 36C and the cool shady area 34C with the only noticeable breeze.

Blackbirds fighting over who gets to have a bath next! We have a cat littler tray as a bird bath.

I feel for you, shiney. Cracks in the ground are normal here, but there hasn't been a prolonged heatwave like this since 2003, and it's terrible watching established trees, shrubs and perennials dying before one's eyes.

              Hi,

I've just been down to remove the sun cover from the car windscreen and it's incredibly hot to the front of the bungalow; at the moment it's cool 32C for some on here but here in Yorkshire the army might be called out. I've lived in Yorkshire for all my life and never ever experienced this amount of heat; when I was born in 1947 it was just the opposite being the worst winter ever on record; welcome to the world Colin.

Winter 1947 brought a freeze to post-war Britain

              Kind regards, Colin.

We still have ours semi closed Pete and only open them fully around 10:30 pm, then all the upstairs ones remain open all night.

I'm the same Michael about not wanting to go up at night. I have to be so very tired that I can't keep my eyes open going up the stairs. Hubs is always up before 7 and I must admit he brings me my breakfast in bed.I then read read for 30mins and also pop on here to report for duty.

Some mornings like today for instance we were sitting outside at 7:am having our breakfast on the patio .....I often think it's the best part of the day.:)

Terribly hot all day here! Weather app says we had 38C this afternoon! Unlike Pete, I can't spend the day in a wheelie bin filled to the brim with water! :cry3:In the flats we don't have them! :cry3:

Tomorrow we expect to have 41C, according to the Met Office app! :yikes::gaah::wow::hotsun:

As the sun was almost touching the horizon I happened to go into the kitchen & saw the sun looking like a flaming red ball! Is that an omen for the heat we are expecting tomorrow???

I've spent almost the whole day in just a pair of shorts & with the fan blowing over my back every 30 seconds - not that it makes all that much difference as I'm still very hot!
