Our allotment site is mostly older people many can't carry a can never mind several, so I understand the exemption. You could say the same thing about commercial growers, why don't they use cans? Allotments are no different, many of us grow fruit and veg to eke out our pensions.

Sorry didn't mean to come across as angry about the allotment hosepipe. I am fully expecting our site to have a hosepipe ban sooner or later. If I can't find time to water everything that needs it, I will have to sacrifice some which would mean we would have to buy more stuff from the supermarket from growers who irrigate.

No worries John, I didn't take it as an angry response. :)
Have to say a lot here are younger than us...niece and her friends are in their 30s/40s.

Exactly !! Most grow for the exact same reasons in one way or another but not all are healthy enough to cope with an allotment...or struggle to even get to one! The allotments here are strict about how they must be regularly tended to and kept tidy.

I just feel bad for older folk, who we know, who are struggling to keep their garden grown produce alive. Just because they can't cope with managing an allotment plot and the amount of the produce they grow is smaller....it still will help them make their finances stretch a bit further this coming winter.

Not being picky but surely we all benefit from commercial growers, we ALL need them to keep up their production line.

What is the definition of a hosepipe, seriously.
If I get some of that blue water pipe, bury it, connect one end to a tap and put a tap on the other end, is it still a hose pipe?
Just working out my defense for when the court case comes up. ;)

The sun finally broke up all the cloud and we are now 22c with a light breeze.

After an overnight low of 12°C, the day started with a clear blue sky and not a breath of wind. Just before noon, the wind got up to its usual storm force which is probably just as well as the temperature is currently 26°C.

                          A meagre 28c here.
Got that easterly wind blowing, wouldn't be surprised if it clouded over later it usually does when the wind is coming from that direction.

We're still at 31C, feel like temp is probably a tad higher.

                              Hi,

Just returned from a nightmare of an hospital visit; extremely hot day with wall to wall driving problems; detours every way we could go and grid lock in Holmfirth; 45 mins just to drive a few miles which were extended due to the detours. Got there just in time but then when the doc appeared she apolgised for the delay which was fair and no complaint; we were on time she was late. Whilst my wife was with the doc I waited in the car with all windows fully opened; I started to read my "The Strad" magazine only for the breeze to annoy turning the pages which I had to hold; next a large wasp decided to join me and annoy me so I belted it with my hat which knocked it silly and it buzzed around the handbrake area before gathering its senses; I thought I was in for it but the wasp vacated the car passing my face; next a maintenance vehicle pulled up and two guys got out making lots of noise so I put the mag away and waited.

Trying to avoid the detour and gridlock in Holmfirth we took another route home; within half a mile the car start to make a rubbing noise at first I thought a flat tyre; got out of the car and all tyres checked OK and no warning icons lit on the car dash so with yet another detour we headed off again but at 30 mph which lessened the noise and I felt safe speed to drive; we finally made it home.

After a mug of tea I got my patch of carpet out to lay on and set about checking the car; all tyres looked perfect; suispension bushes too appeared perfect with no obvious damage anywhere so dig a bit deeper and start looking under the car; I found a puddle of fluid and a drip feeding it; the fluid was clean water so it was the air con.

I've just browsed YouTube and find in this extremely hot weather this water loss is quite normal it being condensate but I'm concerned about the rubbing noise so to be absolutely safe I've just phoned the main dealer and left a message.

In my twenties I owned a car business but in those long ago days cars I worked on didn't have air con (lots of side valves) other than opening the windows or sun roof.

Just adding this story in case other members suffer this problem to save them calling out a repair truck. We simply aren't used to this extreme heat and air conditioning in our cars is very little used. Life is full of fun and I can't wait for the next problem.

                              Kind regards, Colin.
