The light snow that fell yesterday hasn't thawed and there's been a few flurries today. A weak sun fought it's way through the clouds now and again, so mostly cloudy but bright. 2C/36F

I'm not sure whether the temperature will rise above freezing today but I'm going to remain snug indoors unless the bird feeders need filling - it's too dark to see yet.

I do remember the weather exactly 60 years ago today. I had just joined the merchant navy four days before and we were sailing out of Southampton that day (it was a Monday) and as we sailed it had started snowing. It was that winter the country had the 'Big Freeze' (think they said at the time that it was the worst winter for 200 years) when it started snowing heavily at Christmas (think the exceptionally heavy snow was on Boxing Day) and didn't stop until March. I don't think the snow started over most of the country for a few days after we sailed and when we returned towards the end of January there was a brief thaw for about three days (didn't do much to clear the snow) and I was pleased to sail away again.

That was my last year in school. Walked the five blocks to school knee deep in snow that term.

Sun breaking up cloud, calm, 12c going to 18c with heavy rain late evening. :heehee:

Heavy snow. large flakes coming straight down. Everything looks like a Christmas card. Currently 0C. They are forecasting rain tonight but with no let-up, in the temperature forecast, I can see more snow, not rain.

To a 10 year old it was great fun 60 years ago, our village was cut off for 2 weeks so no school. The snow drifts towered over me so we burrowed into them to make igloos.

It's a repeat of yesterday now, -3 overnight and still white over. Should thaw out soon.
