But as you say they were referring to people earlier, not BBC reporters, Pete.

Well we did have a lull in the winds ,down to mid 60s mph for an hour but now they're back up to the high 70s+. The knock on effect from the IOW doesn't help at all ,wind speeds of 122mph were logged off the Needles. We have warnings in place for Sat and Sunday too ,although nowhere near as high as today's speeds.

Hubs had a close shave just now ,as a concrete roof edging got whipped off our roof and narrowly missed him!! Hopefully he'll take heed of my warnings now and stay inside for the time being. I think he was attempting to do a makeshift repair to my greenhouse....I told that I didn't care if I lost all my plants, but I definitely didn't want to lose him!!!

This dove has not moved off her nest in all this pounding wind.

After a slight lull the winds are picking up again now and moved round to a N.Westerly.

Its still an amber warning until 9pm.

We have had next to no rain from this storm.

Still very windy here, too dangerous to venture outside. We just had a sudden hailstorm.

Down to the mid 60s mph winds so a lot calmer

Lots of clearing up to do. I've just been out to see how I can offer some protection for all the greenhouse plants but the wind was whipping around that area and after hub's near miss with some flying roofing I decided ,regrettably, that they will have to fend for themselves tonight

                  Screenshot_20220218-165321.png

Two missing tiles that will need seeing to before 9am tomorrow as we're in for a day of heavy rain. I am absolutely dreading hubs having to get up on the roof!!!

Greenhouse looks like a bomb has gone off in there. Pots on the floor, staging all askew, all the bubble wrap enclosure ripped to pieces. You can just make it out in the corner of the pic.
Broken side is out of shot but the glass is everywhere, all over the little lawn in the borders amongst the plants!!

We have a couple more days to come with weather warnings for wind and rain so can't really do much apart from fixing the two roof tiles and then checking the rest of the roof too.

So sorry for all that damage @Upsydaisy - please take care out there. It's still 70mph here and I daren't go out for a look at my greenhouse yet.

Sorry to hear of your damage? Does Hubby really need to climb up on the roof in the wind? :hate-shocked: Is there no protection under the tiles? about the greenhouse.

Hope you all keep safe personally ... you can replace damaged items.

Should be felt under the tiles, but with some missing any further wind could get under the remaining ones and lift them off.

Yes there's felt but the rain is going to be heavy and that corner is particularly exposed to all the elements. That's the reason that the greenhouse took such a hit too.
We have strong ( ish) winds on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning too reaching 45mph and this could, as Pete said, cause more tiles to lift off.

Well that was lively, Had a phone call from some one as they had trees down across the road, they rang tree surgeons-counicl etc no one to help, so i got out my chainsaw-petrol-oil and walked the few miles and cut up 5 trees this afternoon to get road open again for all the people, only cut up enough of the trees to make it passable as my chainsaw isn't big enough but the people living on the road were very happy that it's been done, all the people said that they will pay for the petrol which i refused, happy day alround :):)

I don't think husband should climb up to the roof @Upsydaisy it's too dangerous. I have a slate or two missing and haven't got round to asking anyone to fix them yet, and the rest of the slates are still there and intact. The back of my house faces west into the full force of the prevailing wind.

I'm sorry about your greenhouse, I hope you can salvage some of the plants.

That was very thoughtful of you @Jiffy

It's much calmer here now, but not going to last :frown:
