It isn't quite so cold this morning and there was no frost last night. Improvements on the way I think :dbgrtmb:

Apparently we have a gas pipeline to Netherlands so we can pinch some of theirs if we have to.
I don't think cutting off gas is an option like electricity.

It's colder than ever this morning hovering around minus 6c.

        Hi,

We've used electric under blankets for years; absolutely no problem we simply replace them every five years. Sheer luxury to climb into a warm bed every night; our bedroom radiator is set at 2.5 so if the boiler kicks in it prevents us sleeping in a freezer.

Centrico has only a weeks supply of gas so it's a good job the weather is forecast a bit milder for next week. We've not had any post all week so no junk mail or begging letters; every cloud has a silver lining.

We feel truly sickened for everyone suffering the many natural disasters around the world; wild fires; floods and earthquakes; even man made wars; so much misery for so many.

        Kind regards, Col.

My daughters bought me one of those electric blankets for when I'm sitting, but I really don't like it. I'd rather just add another layer, and use the heat pads I have [which go in the microwave] and have another cuppa. If it's cold enough to need more heat than that - ie below about 12 or 13 degrees indoors, the heating goes on for a short while.

Another frosty/icy start here, but the temps are rising. O'night low was minus 6 [minus 4 just now at approx. 7.50am] but it's foggy. The predicted high is around 1 or 2 degrees, and to be a mix of that fog, cloud and some sleet/snow/rain later on. Back to manky cloudy, wet weather over the next few days unfortunately.
Yesterday was clear and sunny all day, but it stayed below zero all day with a high of minus 1. It was about minus 4 when I went for my daily walk at about 10 am.

I just read your account of being knocked down @Retired - the brass neck of that man expecting to get a car on your insurance. Unbelievable. Shouldn't be driving at all by the sound of him.

Accuweather says "Delightful with times of cloudiness and sun, a high of 20c". What I see looking out the window is grey low cloud. It is 15c with no leaves flapping.

Regarding electric blankets, do you sit in a chair in the evening with it wrapped around you.
I only remember them from years ago and they were not designed for that purpose back then, only for laying out flat on a bed.

No surprise it says -3 here in South Wales! It’s the time of year when our steep grassed areas front and back will stay white for a while now, just aswell there’s no need to walk on those bits. Got to venture out later to visit OH brother but not too far away. Put some White Honesty in pots I started off late summer in the Greenhouse yesterday fingers crossed they’ll come back .

Still cold, very frosty with ice and snow still on the ground. Today should start to warm up a bit and reach the giddy heights of 5c. Maybe by tomorrow we'll get out for a stroll. Far too slippy atm!

No fog but sunshine with no single cloud. Have to wait a bit before heading to Cirencester.
I brought my street cat a bowl with water and said to him, drink now, it will be frozen soon.
It’s really cold here. Can’t wait to see the end of this cold.

-4c here at the moment and only going up to 0c. Everything is frozen solid and it's misty too.

The GH is in minus figures for the first time. We have a paraffin heater, but I don't use it as I don't like the smell and wonder about safety as there are mice running around.

I gave the fox a steak and kidney pie last night. It was 6 months old and didn't want to risk it on hubby. I defrosted it and threw it onto the lawn. I expect it froze instantly, but it has now gone. I don't often waste food, but none goes to waste!

Still very icy here, my greenhouse has been below zero for days now, except for the propagator which I have set on +5 just to keep some things alive.
My hope is that this frost will kill off some of the pests especially slugs and snails as they were rampant last year.
