Sunny day but quite icy underfoot from our very cold night.
Currently 1C with a low tonight of -5C...much milder. .

1.6C here, but not due to go below zero tonight for the first time in about a week or so.
Downside of that is thick cloud cover so no sunshine during the day.

Yes, it has been very very mild but the guessers are saying that in the next few days, the party will be over. Our temps will drop and the sky will be falling.

And then it will get even colder for the rest of February according to the same people.

Well, if I had to live in a tent it would be horrible. We Canucks are used to the rollercoaster. I sometimes think it makes things a bit more challenging for gardeners over here in regards to trying to be patient about the wait for spring!

and this is March ... sorry it's a bit small, the other weather site with better graphics doesn't forecast this far ahead oops, Fahrenheit

I'm surprised they are forecasting March already but it looks cold.

Our mild spell also ended here over a week ago, probably nearer two now I should think! This cold weather is forecast to last another week at least! It's been some years since we've had such cold winters. 2009/10 winter was one of those they call a "once in a lifetime" event. Well I think I've gone through about 3! The main difference is that we have had next to no snow this winter - at least in this part of the country.

The past weekend we had the lowest temps so far this year - the freezing fog on Sunday made the day even colder & we reached about -7/-8C at some point! That, for us, is extremely low! A couple is more common but not these sort of numbers!

We had transparent skies again this morning & they have remained pretty much blue all day. Though the thermometer may say 5C out of the breeze the day wasn't bad at all!

Tonight we are back to freezing - like the past week & like the rest of this week!

We haven't had a cold winter here. We have had two cold snaps. The second week in December and the past week. The rest of the winter has been wet and windy but not cold.

Minus 5 is not unheard of, but not usual either around here, I get worried around minus 3c, below that serious plant damage starts to occur.
But its how long the freeze goes on that really makes a difference.

The December freeze was the worst up to now down here because of a couple of sub zero days, this freeze was close, but with sunshine it has risen above zero on most days.

This winter is already worse than the so called "beast from the east" in 2018 was it?
That was in late February when the sun is higher and warmer.

I had a data logger in my greenhouse and between 11th December and 15th December the temperature didn't rise above -3c and went down to -9c. My garden went down to -11c, measured with an IR thermometer early in the morning. We had a small cold snap last week but even then the day time temperature was well above freezing. Still, much colder than last year, i didnt record anything below -3c then. We do really have an extremely mild climate for our latitude.

Anyway, that cold was enough to kill most of my psb and winter leeks. It's interesting how they would take a night of -10c or so but the sustained cold kills most things. Swede and garlic laughs at those temperatures at least
