Out of interest @JennyJB - I looked at Oct '23 for here and it was 138mm. I looked at the previous year [2022] and it was 226mm.

I've only had the rain gauge a couple of years too, but it's quite interesting to see all the variations.

It's cloudy and has been raining but I can see blue sky on the horizon.
              10c.
I collected 90mm of rain for March which is quite high as recent years the springs have been pretty dry.
The easterly winds have not arrived this year.

                Good morning all.
Looking like it will be a fairly dry day here but not a lot of sunshine.
Due to reach a giddy 13c with a light breeze.
The garden is now officially a bog!!!

Wet and windy overnight and continuing today but then it should be mostly dry for a few days and stay in low double figures overnight.

That means I can think about pressure washing the terrace and getting the houseplants outside for their summer hols.

People think that because we're "up north" (ish) it must be wet. East of the Pennines it's not (rain shadow apparently). Interesting that @pete in Kent, which is thought of as a dry area, had much more rain than we did in March.
Anyway, after a fine afternoon yesterday there was what seemed like quite a lot of rain in the evening, but it only registered 1mm in the gauge so it can't have lasted for long.

It has been an unusually wet 6 months here, I've got 56mm for Jan and a massive 122mm for Feb.

In comparison to 2023 Jan 73.5mm Feb 3.5mm and 104mm in March, so its all over the place.

Here's a little snip from my rainfall spreadsheet (with apologies to anyone who finds this boring - I'm afraid I'm a bit obsessed with rain)

The long-term averages are from RAF Finningley /DSA (not sure whether they're still collecting data there, with the airport being closed. I suppose I'll find out when the 2001-2030 data is published).
