    Morning.

Thank you @simone_in_wiltshire Interesting. I missed the hot summer of '76 in the UK because I was sweltering in Alabama humidity!

We start today with hazy sun and 20c going to low 30s and (hopefully) breezy.

Another nice day here around 16c . First plum coloured flower on our Calla Lily is out , horsy . It’s one I overwintered in our non-heated greenhouse. Good to be outdoors and the sun is shining .

I don't quite understand your chart @simone_in_wiltshire but I definitely remember 2003 and 2006 being hotter summers than normal but as far as I can make out they are not showing up.

In the first half of the last century, new discoveries were made what actually happens in the air and oceans and that there are driving powers like the jet streams. There are also different oscillations around the world. One of them is the North Atlantic Oscillation. It measures pressure, temperature and more in context to the surroundings near Iceland, which is decisive for our weather in summer together with Azores High (one of 5 world-wide).The NAO has not much impact on Iberia or middle Europe.
The world-wide drought in 2022 happened together with the unknown reason that all 5 Highs were near the polar circle in summer.
If we have a high positive value, Victoria gets bad summer.
                      The North Atlantic Oscillation
What the tables show are shifts in our weather. Whereas
winters used to be colder, they are now warmer, but also drier - something that can’t be said from what we have since 2022/2023. If you look at the months, you will find a minus in front of the figure when we all noticed in our garden rain, sunshine, cold, warmth.
The worst episode of only minus values was winter 2009/2010 up to 2010/2011, with 16 months in a row a minus.
Can you remember when we all complained about June/July 2012, rain and freezing temperatures, Prince Phillip had to be hospitalised with bladder infection after the pageant? Look at the values for June in 2012 in the table: -2.53.
I gave the link to NOAA.
                      I highlighted in red/blue values over 2.
In the second table, I just counted the amount of months in a 5 year period with plus and minus.
One wonders why these 20 years around the 80’s were so “positive“.

Grumpity grumpity grump, the rain that was forecast for this afternoon never materialised and now it's going to be hot and dry for at least four days by the looks of it.

It is 88f with plenty of sunshine. That's around 28c or so. I think. All my neighbours are hiding inside their air conditioned homes which means it's perfect weather to go out there and try to get some noise out of my clarinet
