Perhaps I should have remained silent regards the weather & lack of rain but with wall to wall sunshine - on Sunday we are forecast rain!

For most of the day we did indeed have the wall to wall sunshine forecast but around 7pm the clouds began to encroach on the sun & by 8pm it had been hidden from sight!

We probably reached around 26-27C after all as the breeze was very light. Going to be another warm night tonight but it may be the last for a week at least as we are forecast rain on Sunday as the temps begin to descend from the stratosphere to closer to ground level!

@Balc I would like you to comment here please. For the 30 years you lived in Spain (I know you were in an apartment) how much time dd you spend outdoors a day (on non work day)? When I was in the UK it was probably only three hours a day like now ... on good days!

Why are we supposed to measure daily temperatures in the shade? It doesn't make sense to me when it's so much hotter in the sun.

That said, the temperature in the sun, in my garden at 8.30 this morning was reading 31C/88F.

The sun has blazed all day again and I'm ready for the cooler weather that's coming at the weekend. There's very little rain forecast for next week too and the garden is desperate for it. Top temperature in the shade today was 28C/82F.

Just like here in the UK I hardly spent any time outside at all! The last 19 years I spent there were mostly giving private English classes in our flat! I only left the flat to go shopping, take our kids to/from school or go to someone's flat to give them English classes! So I didn't really spend more than a hour or two a day outside. Being as I didn't teach in a school I had to work very long hours to get enough to feed my family!

Anyway when we did go out, like you, it was in the cooler hours of the evenings. The sun was just too strong between June & September! Before 7 or 8pm it was just too hot to be outside. What I miss most about the weather in Spain is the dark blue skies - something we see very little of in the UK. Even on days like today with wall to wall sunshine there is a "milky" cast to the sky. In Spain you could practically see the stars during the daytime! ;)

The winters where we lived were very much colder than practically anywhere south of Scotland in the UK! 10C below zero was quite a common night temp. We didn't think much about it. I often took our kids to school in temps much lower than we normally experience here. I even saw much more snow there than I have ever seen in the UK! Lots of thunderstorms during the summer as well, sometimes two would "collide" over the town where we lived! We saw a great many hailstorms that left hail the size of sugar lumps! I've seen cars with smashed windscreens & dents all over them! When this happens in the summer it's as if someone had upended an enormous bucket & chucked the contents over the town. It's so fast & sudden.

I went to Spain in 1972 at the age of 22. I had seen lots of rain in England during those years but my very first month in Spain brought what we would call a "cloudburst" I had never been afraid of the rain till that day but it is a common occurrence in Spain. The streets turned into rivers in minutes! :yikes:

I don't think I spend anymore time outside that my family and friends....on non working days Vicky.....or our now retired days.

As children we were always outside with Mum and Dad, all meals including breakfast were enjoyed out on the patio. We played out while our parents sat out reading, dad having a puff on his pipe ( disallowed in the house :nonofinger:) or they tended the garden/ ponds.

I must admit that since we packed up work we seldom eat our breakfast outside now...not sure why really, probably because hubs likes to watch the early breakfast news bulletins...this is the only daytime tv , and he brings me mine on a tray in bed at 7am. When our brood come home breakfast is always had out on the patio ( Spring/ Summer).

Nowadays we are outside by 9 :30 with our first coffee of the day and unless there are housework chores that I can't complete before that time then we stay out there for the day ......on good days that is. What would I do indoors.??

This week has been lovely nothing needs doing in the garden now apart from watering so we sit reading, playing brain games and listening to music while watching the birds/ butterflies , talking etc.

I have never only had 3 hours a day outside in Summer.....it would seem such a waste to me to be indoors.

Hubs comes from an extremely hot country( at times) and they even brought their beds outside in the summer....all gardens were walled and very secure. I just wish we could do that here!!

But I fully appreciate we are all brought up differently......that is what makes us all so interesting and the world go round.:heehee:

That's what I mean @Balc .....the sun is obviously too strong to enjoy in hot countries in summer ,that's why I would prefer a winter home there.:dbgrtmb:

The official temperatures are the air temperatures rather than the temperature of the suns radiated heat, professionals use something called a Stevenson's screen to hold the thermometers which is basically a box which gives shade but allows air movement.

Closest you can get to that without one is an airy place in the shade.

Definitely cooler yesterday than earlier in the week.
                        Had some welcome showers overnight.
Currently 15°C, 20° later; dry, sunny intervals and sunny this afternoon.
