Whats your weather like June 2024

You lucky people getting 600-700mm of rain or more in a (typical) year. Our long-term (30 year) averages since 1961 are in the range 560 to 580mm. Last year was exceptional - I measured 738mm - but the year before more typical at 529.
I haven't resorted to a hose or sprinkler yet but we haven't had more than a few light showers since 26th May so nearly two weeks.

 

12 degrees and mostly cloudy, chance of a shower forecast, sun is peeping through now and then, gentle breeze, the Roses starting to look and small lovely, they remind me of Turkish delight, which is torture as I can't have any lol.

 

The other fix date is around 13th of May, the so-called "Eisheilige" Ice Saints - Wikipedia, when suddenly frost can occur.
What we have since last year is the classical weather and there is nothing wrong with it. Looks like the climate change from the last 20 years has stopped with a big bang and drought in 2022, and we are going for the next years through ordinary weather we used to have in old days.
I'm curious what my friend in Pamplona tells me about the weather in August. I tend to claim they don't get that extended heatwave in Navarre.

 

Well anyone that wants rain can have my share, I just hate mud, rain is something that when it starts it doesn't know when to stop and the odd 20 to 100mm over a 12 month period is nothing.
People seem to have short memories I find regarding rain, and forget how wet it was over the winter months, 2 weeks without rain is a bonus, especially regarding slugs and snails IMO
At least stuff that has grown is not being eaten at the same rate it was in the last few weeks.

What we need now is some heat, but according to the forecast, none in sight.

I guess we all want different things depending on what we grow and I think a really big factor is soil type, mine soil is still wet enough a few inches down in most parts but near the trees it is getting dry, I dont actually water anything once established because I think it just promotes surface rooting and leaves plants susceptible to drought even more.

I do water veg if it gets dry.

 

Hope no one minds me mentioning this here; I live in the UK and have been a keen gardener for 70+ years.

I know 'global warming' (or is it 'climate change') is an undeniable fact. However, (I suppose, like many other UK gardeners) I was quite surprised to be informed by the Met Office, that May 2024 was the warmest month on record.
Try telling that to my temperature sensitive plants i.e. tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers etc.... I could count on the fingers of one hand, the times I could garden outdoors, without a body-warmer, during May.

The first week in June seems to be following the trend....I wonder what the Met Office will have to say about this month!

Mostly due to the amount of cloud cover and the effect of warmer nights.
I wonder if they will come up with a day time average for May, I doubt it because it would probably go against everything we are being told.

On rainfall over the last 12months I've had 1735mm, average is 1100mm or so. It's like it's rained non stop since mid June, I have not had to water outside at all and only been able to hoe three times in a full year

 

@David K As pete said, this is down to the warmer nights. We had a week or so when it was 2 or 3c above average. What the Met also mentions is that we (in most parts of the UK) had up to 30% less sunshine, which was true for where I live (I would even say it was less sunshine) but this is what we have since Autumn 2022.
There is nothing wrong with changing weather patterns every couple of years. During my studies, I spent months with reading the annals of cloisters stretching over centuries. As a side effect, I learned about the success and failure of harvests due to changing weather patterns.

June has always been a dodgy month, i remember in June 1979 it was cold, it was July when it started to warm up.
