The temperature stayed around 34f all day today. A stiff breeze with wintery showeres of snow and sleet made it feel even colder. Right now, at 7.16pm it's 33f with that stiff breeze still working.:D

Still several inches of snow lying here.
Temperatures remained at or below freezing all day.
Doing some small tree/hedge pruning at work today, the field maples were producing lots of sap from the pruning cuts (why so early?). The sap was actually freezing and forming icicles as it dripped from the wounds. Looked quite bizarre.

Currently -7.8......if it drops anymore towards dawn last weeks record (for this winter :D) of -9 could be under threat......'yikes' :help:

Anyone know of anywhere that hires flame throwers so I can thaw the ground out :WINK1: before it becomes permafrost :D

        What a crisp morning

        Evening all,
Well what a crisp fresh morning it's been,
Got up nice and handy and took the gang for their "Walkies", it's been very cold here and the fresh air really clears your mind, -10c last night.

Has anyone noticed we dont seem to have lots of people going around with the flu? Inspite of the freezing weather.

Well as its saturday and ive been decorating all week (loundge finished, start the kitchen on monday) its ment we've not done our big shop & so today we"ve all "dogs and all" been to the supermarket,

Now while the boss goes and shops in the s/market we "the dogs and i" have a walk around the grass area and then i sit in the car and read until
(her who must be obeyed) returns,

But being creatures of habbit im asked every visit "do you want anything,?
Have you enough smellies (under arm stuff/ razor blades ect) and my reply is always the same "No thanks"

But today i did have a request! "Yes" 4 pigs trotters please!

        What,?

        4 PIGS trotters please!

What do you want them for?

        To make a stew with!

Right then was the reply and off she wobbled.

APPROX I HOUR LATER and she returns,

I jumped to the task of loading the trolly's contents into the car and off we went home,

        Did you see anyone?

Yes "and the list starts of all the locals she'd seen and how many had had burst pipes etc etc etc , And then the statement i didnt want to hear,

Oh and because of the bad weather the supermarket has'nt had any meat delivery all this week and so the meat counter was empty of anything worth buying,
Thank god for the freezer we've got at home.

What about the pigs trotters, ?

        Oh they didnt have any.

Now the reason i wanted them was because i sent away for a book called from head to tail, and its about how in the older days people used most of all the animal to make all kinds of meals that seem tobe long forgotten.

Ive read one particular stew that was made using the pigs trotters and it reminded me of a stew my grand mother use to make and so i thought its time for a change of eating habbits and the first meal was going tobe with the trotters,

Im lucky really that the wife lets me try such cooking and im more than willing to try out the older ways of baking/ making soups and stews/sea food ect, they are both tasty and not full of junk,

We've not bought Jams/chuntneys/ bottled fruit ect for a very very long time as we've made our own for years , the same goes for bread,

So if any members wants to have something indoors to do during this cold spell? have a google for the old style cooking and fill both yourself and the freezer with good food thats be forgotten.:sunny:

You'll find it much more filling and cheaper, and you'll be eating the real taste of food and not added chemicles.:phew:
Im starving must go and have a bite to eat.

I enjoy Eisbein (shank), with sauerkraut, roast potatoes and an ice cold german beer and some OOMPAH music (we had many German beer festivals in south africa)

that's as low as I have tried .... never tried the feet but am open to 'suggestion' and I always try new things (at least once)
        :)

-10C :rolleyespink:. Had a funny sight earlier. We have a conifer tree about 2' from the lounge window that has no lower branches for the first 6'. The cat from four houses away was 5' up the tree hugging the trunk and looking in the window :heehee:
