We had our lowest for this winter last night at 4.8c and it's currently 6.8c so the log fire is well and truly going.

For those who like Simon ...

Clouded over rather disappointingly, :gaah: not cold although we had some moisture think it was a low cloud rather than rain.:dunno:

Believe it or not I need some rain and it looks like it's on the way mid week, next week.

Well, they forecast cloud and we got cloud. It stayed dry and cold with very little wind and it wasn't a great day for gardening as it was too cold again. It does seem milder now as it is 42f right now, I guess that's the cloud holding the "warmth" in:coffee:

After a couple of brighter days it was back to normal today. Dull and overcast with a cold northeasterly wind. Temperature got up to 5°C but didn't feel like it.

In meteorological terms spring begins today, weather statistics for 'winter' are compiled using the months December to February.
As far as winter 2012/13 is concerned, I say good riddance.

I cannot remember a more consistently bad winter for working outside than this one.

In every winter, you get maybe one or two cold snaps with frost and snow, some wetter spells and a few spells of reasonably mild and dry weather, when you can get on with those important planting jobs and cultivation works.

Not this winter. For the whole three months, the weather has veered back and forth between copious rain and freezing conditions, with rarely more than a day in between where it was neither too wet nor too cold.

At every stage, the soil has either been waterlogged, frozen or covered in a layer of snow. Sunshine has been well down on average here too.

If there is a silver lining to all this though, my colleague and I at work have noticed that, while our friends and families have all spent the winter suffering from a multitude of cold and flu bugs, we have both sailed through this most inclement of winters with hardly a sniffle between us. Perhaps the foul winter weather has in some way kept us immune to the maladies suffered by all those indoor dwelling softies! :dunno:
