I'm like the plants @simone_in_wiltshire - wet cold is far worse for me than dry cold!
I thnk that's the longest I've had the heating on at one go - just under an hour this morning. I just bump the thermostat up when it feels too cold, but it's never been higher than 17 in the house.

 

Sunny and dusty overcastness with a light breeze, 14c going to 20c, staying partially dusty cloudy.

 

Good morning all, Snowing at the moment but forecast to change to rain ,no winds at the moment a high of 7c later.

 

He snow had gone. Now it's very windy and wet, but warming up.

Nothing worse than wet trollies, wet bags, wet car boot etc - off to the SM shortly. Maybe it will be deserted.

Same weather for the whole weekend. Hopefully our oak tree at the front will shed all its leaves and they will get blown down the road!

 

We had frost by bedtime last night, but woke to rain (as forecasted). It seems to be set in for the kind of steady stuff that I like in spring/summer when the plants need it. This time of year, not so much!

 

Very wet, wind isn't too bad yet, only one pot blown over so far, very mild.
A day indoors!

 

Having moved down South I am not sure what the pavement snow clearing rules are in shop and housing areas but where we lived in Scotland no one cleared the pavement in front of their property because if they did and someone slipped on the cleared area and hurt themselves you could finish up in court and an empty bank account.

 

I really wish people wouldn't clear it, the snow tends to be replaced by black ice which is much more lethal. On the rare occasions we get snow and it it stays, I wear grippy things on my shoes but they need something to grip into - they don't work on black ice. They are great on compacted snow that has refrozen overnight.

 

Naw snaw here, replaced by wild, wet and windy, it is however snowing heavily inland, my grandsons in Perth have been out with a sledge all morning, still only 3 degrees here at the moment.

 

We have a neighbour who has just been out clearing the footpath between the two rows of houses @Escarpment . He did this a few years ago, but it obviously didn't occur to him that if the temp then drops [which is the normal] especially after it's started to thaw a bit, he's created a skating rink - exactly as you describe. What was worse was - he decided to clear people's front paths. I was not amused, and if I'd seen him, I'd have told him to b*gger off.
Snow is far safer and easier to walk on than ice. If you clear it, you need to grit it. I've done that several times here, using some buckets of salt/grit from the nearest grit bin, and especially where the road slopes down at the junction.
I'm well used to walking in all sorts of weather, as well as working outside in it for many years, and it always infuriates me when people think it's only about clearing snow out the way.

Today, it's to get warmer, so he's wasting his time anyway, but I watched him to see what he was going to do. It's raining now, so he's gone back in!

 

When it comes to clearing snow I usually do it if its likely to last more than a day or so, main reason is if you dont it gets flattened and turns into ice anyway after a couple of days, it also gets very uneven and crunchy.
So shifting it on day one before anybody much walks on it means you can clear it properly.

When I was a kid we used to flatten the snow on the paths and then polish it up to create slides, not sure why it was so unpopular with all those miserable adults.

 

Indeed @pete - it very much depends on the site, the amount, and what will happen later, and also the amount of foot traffic there's likely to be on a pathway.
It often lasts a fair time here, so I would clear and add grit or sand, if there was going to be a slight thaw and a drop in temps, but that wasn't going to be the case today. It's only been a couple of inches here this morning, and it's already clearing quite a bit, although the temps have only just got to 1 degree.
