Yesterday we had a thunderstorm but it was soon over but the rain carried on for a long time.

Now it's a clear sky and light winds from the north north west temp 9c feels like 7c.

Mostly sunny and a couple of sleety showers early evening. A light breeze, but with the temperature down to 8C/46F I donned my old gardening coat while outside.

It ended up a warmish sunny afternoon, such that I could do a bit if tidying up - getting acorns off the lawn again and putting them in the green bin. The bin is so heavy.

It seemed impossible that the weather could be cold tonight (2c), but once the sun went down the temps dropped quickly.

There were some tall orange clouds next to some round black ones as the sun went down. Looked weird.

Tomorrow looks ok as it's full sun then sunny intervals. Chilly though.

It's chilly with 5c outside and 17.9c inside. BBC expects to go down to 3c.
Max temperate of 16c and sunshine.

I'm keeping an eye on Europe, they expect to get torrential rain which will cause flooding across Austria, Czech Republic, and Poland with up to 300l in some parts around Vienna. Windy.com says 190l maximum all together in the next days. I guess even Windy.com will be too high.

We got a short burst of heavy rain around 9 p.m. last night but the ground here is still full of cracks.

It is currently 3C outside and 20C inside - we have our heating set on a permanent setting apart from when we go away. The forecast for the next two weeks is sunny and rising to 23+ apart from Sunday week when it will rain.

I really don't know why I bother looking at the forecast as it changes almost daily and is rarely accurate.

A bright start here, and o'night low of 3 degrees [ 4 just now at approx. 7.30am] and a bit of twinkly frost on some roofs etc. The predicted high is about 13 degrees, as it's to be quite sunny.

My thermostat is set at 13 from spring until about October @shiney, and it was about to kick in this morning, as it was just above that in the lounge. I stuck the heating on for about 15 mins to take the chill off. I'm that much in credit that I don't feel too guilty.

Yesterday turned out quite nice, with a good bit of sun, some cloud and a couple of tiny showers, and a good breeze. The high was 14 degrees. Washing dried quite well. ;)

Frost in the allotment which is unfortunately in a pocket and is 2c lower than other lows in Glasgow. French bean leaves look frost bitten, so do the tomatillos. None of the winter squash are ripe yet, hopefully they are ok. Chillis in the converted shed are fine, the ones with less protection look poorly

That's the earliest frost I can remember here, we had one much worse one a few years ago at the end of September that did in most summer crops. What a wonderful summer we've had:mute:

It has now soared to 9C with not a cloud in the sky and very bright sunshine. The neighbour's cat is sitting on our patio enjoying the paving that warms up quickly when the sun is on it. Not the slightest hint of a breeze.

It's the length of time that temps are low/high that do the most damage. A light frost - ie an above zero one, for a few hours, will do far less damage to plants than even a fairly light minus 1, 2 or 3 that lasts for 7, 8 or 9 hours, or more. If temps swing a large amount from hot/cold too, that has a bigger effect. The last few nights here have been single figures here from around 8pm, until mid to late morning. That also has an impact, but it's easier for plants to manage if the decline of temps through a season is gradual, rather than sudden.
Usually the beginning of October in this area for the first frosts @Hanglow , but we did have a late September one last year. I don't think the summer's been that bad, even with the very wet August. At least it's been warmer on the cloudy/wet days than it used to be many years back.
