Brilliant thread, with some magic ideas! I really like your vegetable rack waco - and those dogs are gorgeous! Palustrus - your alpinery is just amazing! Nicsdad - I envy your salvages, what a great start to the season!

I don't have a greenhouse - am beginning to wonder if I could just squeeze one in somewhere...lots of ideas here! [IMG]

Thats right T O, it goes a bit greenish in the winter but turns nearly black with the stronger light in the summer.

The cacti could be bigger BM, but I tend not to pot them on as much as I should due to lack of space. There are others not in that greenhouse.
The oldest ones must be approaching 25yrs or a little more now from seed.

Ferrocactus with the seed pod BM, sown 1985.
There is also a couple of saguaro there but you wont recognise them, they CAN take 100yrs before they grow their first arm, so I dont think I'll be seeing that.
Its tidier than mine Celia [IMG]

Have to agree with BM pete they are woppas! but have to admit to cacti not being my favourite plants, I find them very unemotional - now there is a chance to prove me wrong!

as to Zwartcop, well mine turned her legs up and died on me this winter, but one I got of ebay of no known type, started off green and has now turned very dark purple but not as purple as petes which is an excellent variety.

oh and pete I may need you to help me with my succulent lottery mix seeds I got from chilterns.........ME - did I say cacti were unemotional???

You like them really Waco, its the spines that put you off, dont let them, up close the flowers of most are totally unlike any other plant and in the brightest colours that is possible.
The succulents are also good flowerers but they usually have interesting leaves that means they are interesting all year.
I look foward to your young plants, but I'm no expert, just hope I can help out in the ID.

not sure it is the spines, its that for nearly 100% of the time they look the same, but yes spines do put me off a little.

My succulents at the moment just all look like fat blown up babies - not like seedlings at all, I keep thinking they are bits of vermiculite when I look at them.

Rebutias, one of the easiest to grow and the first to flower, not even spiney, just a bit bristly.
