    Thoughts on buying a wheelbarrow.

    size matters:
Make sure you can hold the wheelbarrow comfortably with your hands at your side. Surprising some have narrow set handles requiring you to have your hands infront of your hips. Uncomfortable and can strain your back.

Make sure the capacity fits your needs. If its too small you end up overloading and spilling the lot.

    Are you going down steps
This puts a big strain on metal framework. Make sure there are additional support struts.

Its not the container that rots but the framework - make sure its substantial.

Go for one with a pneumatic trye are this is more comfortable plus its eaier and reduces the wear on soft ground and lawns.

check out any narrow spaces the barrow will have to negotiate

For general gardening you don't need anything too fancy but a builders' barrow is a good all round choice.

I find that Travis Perkins are a bit pricey even with a discount. If you have a Wickes near you they have a couple of reasonably priced wheelbarrows at the moment (was in there yesterday). Both have pneumatic tyres. One was £24 and the other (galvanised) was £30.

    Good luck.

Wheelbarrow manufacturers are not environmentally friendly. They do not supply replacement buck's for their barrows, so a perfectly good chassis has to be dumped when the buck fails due to rust or damage.
I have a Haemerling which I bought years ago, the buck rusted out and I replaced it with one I made from weatherproof ply (about 10mm).

Carboot carboot and carboot. Mine was a fiver-don`t know its make, don`t much care had it for about 4 yrs now, it looks a bit knackered and Ive had to replace some of the clips ( with garden twine) and blown the tyre back up but still going strong.

Don`t buy new stuff ever if you can help it.
