Made I laugh when a cyclist went past a woman on the pavement in South street, she didn't bat an eylid when she pushed him off his bike :snorky:

He looked well pee'd off but didn't say anything as he knew he shouldn't have been riding on the pavement.

The zig zag lines are either side of pedestrian crossings, you'm not allowed to park on them or overtake anything, even a bike.

Don't think helmets are compulsory over here for bikes

It's to stop you plowing into folk while they're crossing and leaving entrails all over the black and white stripes :)

Our pedestrian crossings have lights that flash when a the walker pushes a button. Then motorists are obliged to not stop or pass vehicles either direction. Crossing in between intersections other than these crossings is considered jay walking. Course no one enforces the law outside of downtown Toronto.

They wouldn't do a thing about it @Jiffy. Anywhere around the London area, it seems that cyclists are completely immune from the law or even common sense; between all the millions of pounds spent (a lot of which is pretty much wasted, as it isn't used all that often) whilst not exercising any control over cyclists and all the money wasted on the vanity project that are the Borismaster buses, Boris Johnson should be jailed.

I got an email yesterday proudly informing me about £30m of works in Kingston Upon Thames to improve cycling infrastructure which will include around 18 months of potential disruption whilst the roads are remodelled around the front of Kingston Station.

So, on the one hand we are being told that the country is potless, but we still have millions to spend on projects like this! (And don't get me started on HS2!)

                How can you prosecute cyclists???
Unless you actually catch them in the act of an offence there is no way of tracking them down.

One thing I do think that needs to be sorted is that all cyclist should have to have adequate insurance to cover any mayhem they might cause, and any cyclist without insurance should have their bike seized and crushed.
Lets face it, you really need insurance these days to take the dog for a walk,;) (I know it's not compulsory), so why can someone go out on the roads and basically flaunt every law of the road and get away with it.
If the insurers then stated that if riding on the pavement they were uninsured, it would totally outlaw that kind of thing.

We have funny names for crossings;), I think what you are referring to Lori is what we call a pelican crossing:snork:, with lights and a button to push.
Zebra crossings are when there are no traffic lights or button, it's just up to the drivers to give way to pedestrians.
I think there are other silly names we have for different types of crossing but I cant think of them at the moment.:biggrin:

Other UK crossings include the Puffin (not many about now, most have been replaced by Pelican corssings), the Toucan (bikes and pedestrians, as in two-can cross) and the Equestrian (as the name suggests, for horses)

I know, after reporting a few things here it took 2 years to see change ;) even then i think the police got fed up we me phoning most days for 2 years to report what's going on :snorky: and also there's been a few other things happening in another village not far away, again nowt being done, then someone wrote a bleeding good letter to the main men/women (5 people all had a copy letters saying about the law so that no one could said they didn't know ) in high places ;) then there was a big crack down :Wino::snorky::)
So it does pay to report even if you get pee-d off with doing it

This is why people hold the coppers in such contempt.

No common sense. No understanding of people. Most coppers are just school bullies that never grew out of it.

I bet the same copper probably turned a blind eye to all of the dangerous and illegal parking that is to be found in the vicinity of any school at that time of day.

There's a difference between a kid riding slowly under supervision and an arrogant bottom belting along.

How many do you actually *know*?
I know a few and none of them fit your description.
