When can I have my pond?

    Moderators note, i'm keeping my eye on this thread.

    Ziggy's note, i'm sure we all want to keep safety in mind when it comes to small people. Whether its baths or ponds. I'm sure most Fathers on here have Tree'd a brick when they've found their child lying motionless under the water in the bath holding their breath, just because they can:doh:

    I think clueless has summed up my point quite well - it's very important to keep risks in perspective and not to overreact to minor dangers to the extent that the 'cure' is worse than the original problem. One would have to get rid of a huge number of garden ponds nationally to make any appreciable reduction in the number of children drowning, and even then the effect on overall mortality would be negligible. So hardly any benefit gained, but a great deal lost in terms of the value of these ponds both for garden wildlife and for people's enjoyment of them.

    For the time being Clueless why don't you put something like an upturned dustbin lid with a bit of water in it and some small rocks in and around it...even a small pond plant then you never know Mr Frog might come and visit the little fellow:dbgrtmb:
