When, no if - this country returns to normal I'll be gardening as Nigel suggested. Not growing daisies but pushing them up.

Edit: And the only form of 'woke' I understand is opening eyelids after sleep.

I must admit I'm slightly fed up with the Woke expression, until a few years ago I'd never heard of it and suddenly lots of people I tend to agree with are using it all the time.

I dont really like it, they are idiots, morons or just plain stupid but not sure about Woke.

Being honest I haven't got a clue what it means and can't be bothered to look it up either. It's a word I can live without.

I did look up its origin at one point when I first heard it, but it was so pointless I cant remember how it came about, I think its American.

I find that it is an amorphous word. It is supposed to mean that the woke person is aware of social and political prejudices and injustices and particularly in reference to race and gender. I agree with the principal of being aware but not necessarily with the way it is interpreted by some, or a lot, of people. It seems to be used more often as a way to discriminate about someone else's perceived ideas.

Don't ask me for a translation of what I just said. I don't like what tend to be all encompassing words. :heehee:

It's kind of patronising but I don't think it's the intention. I just think stupid people use it because they mistakenly believe it makes them sound like they know something the rest of us haven't realised yet.

As far as I understand it, the term 'woke' in its modern use means, to understand a bit about the history of things, history that is often brushed under the carpet. For example, 'woke' people recognise that a lot of key figures that had a prominent role in the industrial revolution actually found success on the back of child labour and/or slavery. It's like only a select few realise this and the rest of us are still blind to it, or asleep to it, or not woke.

More recently still, it seems to have evolved into a derogatory term, used by those that don't care against those that do. For example, if someone was to speak up in defence of terrified asylum seekers risking their kids lives on dodgy boats because they perceive that as a better option than staying somewhere they're likely to get beaten or killed, then the person speaking up might be branded as 'woke' by those that see said terrified asylum seekers as subhuman.

Personally I hate the term 'woke' in both contexts. Woke was already a legit word with legitimate uses, and there are plenty of other ways to express a view in language without trying to repurpose a single word to convey a broad range of conflicting meanings.

So we didn't need the word 'woke' to describe those things suggested here. As I said in my earlier post it's a word I can live without and so can you folks too it would seem. :)

You're right @Sheal . Woke is just a substitute for sanctimonious. It also is rude as it implies everyone else is, "asleep at the switch".

Frankly, don't think it will ever be normal again, any country. There is too much need by certain power groups to change humanity. Sadly.

I wonder how we define normal anyway. A few hundred years ago normal was for the majority of folks to live in absolute squalor and die of malnutrition or freeze to death in winter while a select few held all the money and power. Fast forward a little bit and normal was taking people by force from their homeland and making them work on plantations, then we got to sending five year old kids down coal mines or up chimneys or under machinery in mills.

The world is constantly changing. I believe for its faults, it's getting better.

On the whole I like to think I'm a nice person, I show politeness and respect to all men , women, children and all other living creatures that we are privileged to share our world with.
But as I age I am finding it harder to just stand back and witness ignorant people voicing ( at full volume usually) equally ignorant comments about others. They often do so in situations where they know full well their ' victim' can't respond.....so I tend to find myself in 'hot water' on occasions because I respond on their behalf!!! Woke or not.
Anything not people or animal related I am learning to ignore and let it pass over me......but it hard at times.:mute:
